Dear Parents/Carers,
The past few weeks have provided the children with many exciting and enriching learning opportunities. These have included excursions to CERES Community Environment Park for Year 2 students, a visit to Penola Catholic College to watch the Mamma Mia! school production for Year 4 students, and an excursion to Scienceworks for Prep and Year 1 students. These experiences have supported the children’s exploration of a variety of themes and concepts, enhancing and enriching their overall learning experience.
A huge thank you to all the staff for their hard work, organisation, and dedication in making the Prep–Year 3 Camp Experience such a success on Thursday evening. The camp brought a wonderful sense of excitement to the school throughout the week, particularly on Thursday morning as the children arrived at school. It was fantastic to see the children enjoying one another’s company, taking turns at dinner, using their manners, and genuinely looking forward to the opportunity to spend time with their friends and teachers. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating such a positive and memorable experience for our students!
At School of the Good Shepherd the teachers have been busily collecting and assessing data, which supports them to understand each child’s learning progress and development. Teachers use classwork, observations, activities, and assessments to track student achievement and identify areas where extra support may be needed. This information is used to create clear and meaningful student reports that help families stay informed about their child’s growth and learning journey. We look forward to presenting your child's school report via thenForma Parent Portal on Wednesday 24th June.
It is so wonderful to see so many parents involved in supporting the school in a variety of ways, including the school canteen, parent classroom helpers, parent helpers on excursions, members of the School Advisory Council and Parent's Association. It is through the support of parents at School of the Good Shepherd that we are able to provide so many great learning opportunities for our students. Parent involvement plays an important role in a child’s success at primary school. When families actively support learning and participate in school activities, students feel encouraged, confident, and motivated to achieve their best. Strong partnerships between parents and teachers help create a positive learning environment that supports each child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Thank you to all parents who are able to support the school throughout the year, in a variety of ways, this is greatly appreciated and encouraged.
At the beginning of Term 3, on August 3rd and August 4th, our school will be participating in our School Review as part of our 4 year School Improvement cycle. The school review provides an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the many strengths of our school community, while also identifying future directions for continued growth and improvement. Donna Bryce will be conducting our school review, which will involve conversations with staff, students and families, as well as an examination of our teaching and learning programs, student wellbeing practices and school initiatives. Feedback from our community plays a valuable role in helping us ensure that we continue to provide the best possible learning opportunities for all students. We are proud of the strong partnerships that exist within our school community and look forward to sharing the outcomes of the review process once they are made available.
A reminder that there is a School Closure Day on Monday 8th June due to the King's Birthday holiday. We look forward to seeing the children back at school on Tuesday 9th June.
Kind regards,
Laura Petrie
