AFLW Football Day
Our whole school had a fantastic opportunity to meet and interview Richmond AFLW players Sierra Grieves #6, Caitlin Greiser #9 and Montana Breuldsen #8.
The day was shared with students from Bridgewater Primary School and Inglewood Primary School, making it a wonderful community event. We began by meeting the players and taking part in a Q&A session, where students were able to ask questions about football, training, teamwork and what it is like to play at the elite level.
Students then broke into activity groups and enjoyed a range of football-themed activities, including skill-based games, footy maths and designing their own AFL jumpers. It was a great day of learning, movement and fun, and we thank Sierra, Caitlin and Montana for taking the time to inspire our students.
A special highlight for our students was receiving player signatures and having the chance to speak with the players in person. A big thank you to Bridgewater Primary School for hosting the event and making us feel so welcome. Experiences like this give our students the chance to connect with positive role models, learn more about pathways in sport, and see the importance of teamwork, persistence and having a go.
Foundation - Grade 1 Maths
What can you make out of different shapes?
The Foundation students have been learning to identify different shapes around the school including circles, rectangles, squares and triangles. Who knew the classroom windows are made up of so many squares!
Students finished off the unit this week looking at making pictures based off of different shapes. Some of the most popular pictures were the vehicles.
Which container holds more?
The Grade 1 students have been focusing on measurement this unit. The have been exploring how long items are within the classroom, how much items weighs using balance scales and looking at how much capacity containers have and comparing them. Students have been enjoying the water play this week as we compare the capacity of two different containers, we definitely have some strange size containers.
Maths Yr 3
Have you ever wondered how people get to school? We created a survey to collect this information using tally marks and then collated our findings into a simple table. Easy! To challenge ourselves we then learned how to input this data into Microsoft Excel to create a graph to display this data in a visual way! How clever are we?! We decided that a bar graph was the best way to make comparisons between our data. Can you see which way most people come to school?
Physical Education F-6
After 6 weeks of basketball, we moved to a high-energy active games session. The students had a lot of fun moving their bodies to this dance routine. I was very impressed with how quickly they got the hang of it.
We look forward to an exciting Term 3, where our students will join with Inglewood Primary School and Bridgewater Primary School to enter a football and netball team. We will also be preparing for athletics, which will take place in the middle of the term. It will be wonderful to see our students continue to build their skills, teamwork and confidence while representing St Mary’s with pride.
