Nude Food Lunch Challenge in Year 3/4
Our Year 3/4 students have been exploring an important question: How can we reduce the amount of plastic we use every day?
As part of our Sustainability lessons, we held a Nude Food Lunch Challenge, where students tried to bring their lunch with as little single use plastic as possible. Single use plastics are items such as chip packets, cling wrap and snack wrappers that are used once and then thrown away.
We discovered that many students already have fantastic lunchboxes with separate compartments, making it easy to pack sandwiches, fruit and snacks without any extra wrapping. Students also came up with some clever money saving ideas! Instead of buying individually wrapped snacks, families could buy larger packets of biscuits, chips or spreads and portion them into small reusable containers. This reduces waste and can also save money.
To finish our challenge, students designed their own sustainable lunchbox plans. They thought about what foods they would like to include, how they could help prepare them, and how they could pack them without creating extra waste. One of our biggest discoveries was that reducing plastic often takes only a minute or two of extra planning—but it can make a big difference to our environment.
🌷 Gardening Club – Our Garden Beds Are Full of Surprises!
Have you noticed the garden beds near the library and wondered if anything is growing?
While they may not look very exciting right now, our junior students have been busy planting bluebell bulbs and tiny flower seeds. Beneath the soil, these little plants are hard at work getting ready to grow!
With a little sunshine, rain and patience, we are looking forward to a beautiful display of colour in the coming months. We can't wait to see our hard work bloom!
🪱 Well Done, Compost Ninjas!
A huge congratulations to our amazing Compost Ninja Team!
Every day, these dedicated students collect food scraps from around the school and feed them to our worms. By keeping food waste out of landfill, we help reduce methane gas emissions and create nutrient-rich compost for our gardens.
Thank you, Compost Ninjas, for helping Trinity become a more sustainable school. Your efforts make a real difference every single day!
♻️ Trinity Trash Transformers – Two More Weeks to Collect!
Thank you to all the families who have been collecting eligible bottles and cans to support our school fundraising efforts through the container recycling program.
Each week, our Sustainability Leaders collect containers from classrooms and keep a tally of how many each class has contributed. At the end of the term, we'll announce our winning class!
Â
A reminder: please do not squash containers, as the recycling machine needs to scan the label.
Â
There are only two weeks left to collect this term, so keep those bottles and cans coming!
A special thank you from our Trinity Trash Transformers:Lenora, Thao, Abby, Abuk and Solomon
Â
Thank you to all our students, families and staff for the many ways you help care for our environment each day. Every small action—whether it's reducing waste, recycling, composting or caring for our gardens—helps create a greener and more sustainable future for everyone.
