'Notice the joy to be found in the simple things in life.'
During our Berry Street Education Model professional learning day, staff explored the important role of co-regulation in supporting student wellbeing and learning. We discussed how children often need calm, connected adults to help them manage big emotions and return to a state where they are ready to learn. Staff examined practical co-regulation strategies such as greeting students warmly at the door, using a calm and reassuring tone of voice, offering movement or sensory breaks, modelling deep breathing, providing choices, using visual schedules, and supporting students through predictable routines and positive relationships that help them feel safe, connected, and regulated.
Below are some helpful resources for families to explore ways to support your children with regulating their emotions.
