Year 10
This term, Year 10 students have undertaken a new applied learning initiative for Numeracy revolving around financial maths and money management. Throughout the unit of learning students have been required to complete a self-reflection at the conclusion of each lesson in which positive behaviours earn students money, and anti-social behaviours have the consequence of being fined. Students have the opportunity to save this money, building interest, and to decide what type of rewards they would like to purchase as a result of building their money. The unit aims to teach students the importance of managing their money, but also skills of self-reflection.
During Health classes, students have been focusing on stress and its impact on the body, the importance of utilising positive coping strategies, healthy and respectful relationships, and also drug and alcohol education. These sessions provided students with the opportunity to explore content whilst enhancing their critical thinking, decision making, communication and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, students attended their last Whittlesea Technical School excursion where they worked towards perfecting their podcasting skills through self and/or peer interviews and also used this as a platform to present their Literacy Instructional Writing piece and explain how to perform or carry out a process of their choosing. Students were also given the opportunity to participate in teamwork initiatives to work their way through an obstacle and navigate drones and also respectfully compete against others on the Nintendo Switch. Overall, Year 10’s students have worked productively throughout their assigned tasks, and we wish them all a restful and rejuvenating break, ready to return for Term 4.
Year 11
The year 11s have been working diligently and enthusiastically to complete coursework throughout term 3. Students had the opportunity to attend the FareShare Excursion and prepare food for the vulnerable. This excursion provided them with skills such as adaptability, flexibility, teamwork, collaboration, organisation, compassion and empathy.
Students were able to participate in this excursion with enthusiasm to assemble 833 beef casserole and rice meals, opened and prepared 700 pasta meals and cut 35kg of pumpkin. This was an amazing achievement for the Year 11's and gave students a sense of accomplishment.
As part of their PDS subject, students were able to work together and create a Community Issue and Animal Walkthrough Exhibition. This display consisted of a diorama, brochure and visual presentation to educate the rest of the college on the impact certain community issues can have on endangered animals.
We have had the privilege of watching the Year 11 students grow and flourish into young adults. We wish them nothing but success and happiness as they enter their final term of 2024.
Year 12
It has been another successful term for the Year 12 cohort at Peter Lalor Secondary College. We are constantly impressed with the maturity and focus of students towards their studies. Students are now working towards completing the final Vocational Major Learning Outcomes, to complete Unit 4.
Planning for 2025
Now is the time that Year 12 students need to be planning for 2025. Many have already begun this journey and are well on the way of organising a positive pathway option for 2025. Positive pathway options include, and may be a combination of:
At the school there are many staff available, who can assist with transitioning into a positive pathway for 2025. These include:
Students are encouraged to reach out the relevant staff members, for assistance or to answer any questions relating to plans for 2025.
As we near the end of the year, all students are expected to attend each day, including VET and Structured Workplace Training days; and continue to follow expectations. It has been an extremely positive and rewarding year, and I look forward to seeing all students finishing the year strongly.
I would like to thank the ongoing efforts of the superb Year 12 teaching team, Ourania Dounas, Vici Petrovski and Cindi Carr. Their efforts and dedication to the students are on show every day.
