Day for Daniel - Monday 21st October

Wear RED to school

Mackellar will be observing 'Day for Daniel' - Australia's largest child safety education and awareness day which not only honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe but also ensures an ongoing awareness program for child safety.  On this day, all classes will conduct a lesson based around Safety Helpers, which is someone that a child feels safe around.  Daniel was a boy who was unaware of his safety network and the places he could go to get the help that he needed. He entered a stranger's car.  His parents couldn't find him and they were really worried about him.

Daniel was wearing red on the day that he was lost, and this is why we encourage children to wear red. Also on this day, an officer from the Victorian Police will be attending our Monday morning assembly who will discuss safety networks students can access for help when they feel unsafe.

We encourage all students to WEAR RED to school on Monday 21st October.

Mackellar's Art Show - Thursday 24th October at 4.30pm to 7.30pm

Please see the Art Show details in this newsletter providing further details.

Halloween Costume Day and Funky Monkey Disco - Friday 8th November

Funky Monkey Disco is yet another wonderful memory of fun and laughter for our students. It is also an exciting opportunity for children to socialise with students from  other classes within their age group.

Grade Prep to 3 - 3.45pm to 4.30pm (45 min)

Grade 4 to 6 - 4.45pm to 5.45pm (1 hour)

Costume Day - To make the most of our disco evening, we are encouraging all students to wear a Halloween costume to school for the day, or similar kind of outfit.

Although there is no payment required for the disco, we are requesting that students please bring a gold coin to school for the Halloween dress up day if they are wearing costumes.  This will assist our school to fund the amazing children's DJ for the evening and other Term 4 events.

Remembrance Day - Monday 11th November at 9.05am to 9.30am

Our Junior School Council leaders will lead the Remembrance Day Service.  All families are welcome to attend.

The Fathering Project - Monday 25th November at 9.05am to 10.30am

All dads and/or grandfathers/fatherly figures are invited to make their mark on a brick wall in the form of a painted hand print with their child/children.  How exciting will that be for our students as they see the handprint during the day as a reminder of the special bond that you share!  Further details about this will be shared soon.

Toy Fund Concert - Monday 16th December at 9.05am to 9.30am

Our final whole school assembly for 2024 will be a Toy Fund Concert and all families are welcome to join in fun.  Late November, families may donate a new toy that is not wrapped.  This gives the Salvation Army a chance to offer toys to children that really appeal to them.  Further information will be provided next month.
