Principal's Report
Dear Parents,
Welcome to term four and hopefully some warmer weather. I hope everyone had some time over the holiday period to be with family and friends, and now our students are refreshed and ready to tackle the last term of the year. And what better way to start the term than with our P-2 camping program.
Last week our grade one and two students stayed late here at school on Thursday night, with our grade ones heading home later in the evening, and our grade two students sleeping over. In the morning they were joined by our grade prep students and had breakfast together.
These first steps in our camping program are crucial as they lay the foundation for longer and more distant camps in later years. Thank you to the parents for sending their children along, as for some it may have been the first time sleeping away from home or extended family. A big thank you also to the staff who participated in the event. Without such amazing staff these events simply could not occur.
The next school event fast approaching is Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel is in commemoration of Daniel Morcombe. Most of us remember all too vividly the events that led to Daniel's passing. Rest assured, the details of Daniel's passing are not the focus of the day for primary aged students, and we will not be referencing any of the details of that tragic event. Day for Daniel is all about child safety and awareness, and this will be the focus of our activities and discussions. For more details about Day for Daniel, please click this link.
Of course, our major event for the term is our much acclaimed art show Spettacolo! Spettacolo! This is the highlight of our calendar this term, and will take place on October 24th from 4:30pm. We would love to see as many family and friends as possible. Student art will be on display and for sale, as well as art pieces on display from artists in our community. Secondary school bands will entertain us as will a stilt walker. Food will be for sale from the canteen and tickets to the event are for sale from the office or via XUNO. Tickets are only $5 per family, so please come along and be a part of the fun.
A reminder that Friday November 1st is a curriculum day with students not required at school. On this day, staff will be working on implementing the updated Mathematics Curriculum as set by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. On Monday November 4th, students are also not required at school as teachers work on other administrative tasks. TheirCare will be available for child supervision on both of these days. With the Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday November 5th, this will give students a five-day break from school. Please mark these dates in your diary.
Finally, on November 8th we will be once again holding our Halloween dress up and disco. On this day students are welcome to come to school dressed in their favourite spooky attire for a gold coin donation. In the afternoon/evening we will be holding our disco with details sent out closer to the date.
Kind Regards,
Simon McGlade
