Design Technology

Design Technology in Term 3 has been a very productive term. Students in TASC courses are getting close to finishing their products with a lovely bedside table, a complex turbo jet engine, a new welding trolley and body armour the focus this term.

Year 7 students are working at producing wooden coaster sets learning how to create cut lists and glue timber together. We are having fun laser engraving hand drawn and digital designs onto the coasters. Electric movement is the focus in Year 8 as students create simple circuits to incorporate into chassis designs for our big electric car race at the end of term!

Year 9 students are working on pot plant stands with a focus on joinery techniques using housing joints and halving joints. We have also used the laser to cut out jigs for gluing projects that students have designed through CAD programs. Year 10 students have been researching project ideas as they undertake their major negotiated projects that cover Terms 3 and 4. Sourcing sustainable and suitable materials is a challenge as they fully develop their design briefs and their planning with their material costs in mind.

Digital Technologies

This term, our Digital Technologies students have been immersing themselves in the dynamic world of game design! Using Flowlab and GameMaker, they are not only creating their own interactive games but also developing essential skills such as coding, problem-solving, and project management.

Through this hands-on experience, students have been learning how to design engaging gameplay mechanics, create compelling narratives, and implement user-friendly interfaces. They are also gaining insights into the iterative design process, learning to test and refine their games based on feedback. I’m incredibly proud of their creativity and collaboration, and I can’t wait to showcase their final projects!
