PeaceWise Program
PeaceWise Program
During Term 2, SCC introduced the PeaceWise program as part of our Learning Lab sessions. This is a Christian education course that helps young people to understand more about why conflict occurs and how they can respond. It provides students with constructive strategies to resolve conflict. PeaceWise helps students to grow in social and emotional maturity and fosters an understanding of God’s desire for us to experience healthy, life-giving connections with others.
Some of our Year 7 students have written an explanation of the program and how it has helped to shape them. They have also written some poems, inspired by the content of the program.
PeaceWise Article by Year 7 students, Lucy Abetz, Alison Crowley and Ruth Griffiths
PeaceWise is a Christian based youth program that is dedicated to teaching children, adolescents and young adults appropriate ways to navigate and deal with conflict.
PeaceWise has taught us that we can deal with conflict in many ways, how to make peace with one another, following the plan God has set out for us. We learn respectful and kind ways to end conflict, and what we should do if we are caught in one.
We have been learning about the Conflict Pizza, the first piece is GOD, so putting God first. The second piece is ME, which is asking yourself what you have done and what you could have done better. The third piece is YOU, so choosing to talk it over with the other person or people or telling a trusted adult. The last piece is US, so letting everyone know that it is okay and that all is well and saying what could be done better next time.
You can fight back which can be physical or speaking mean words, escape, which is running away, or make peace, which is asking a trusted person for advice, forgiving the other person and talking it over. We have learnt that God is in everything, and we can choose to go God’s way instead of our way, which has lots of blockages. We learn about the roadblocks in our life, and how to overcome these; roadblocks like greed, selfishness, unkindness and unforgiveness. The Bible can help us in many ways, we can’t do it on our own and we need God’s help.
