Dear Parents and Carers,

Here we are at the end of term 3!

Well, what an extremely busy and jam-packed term we have all had. I wish to congratulate all our students and staff for an eventful and successful term dealing with both positive and sometimes challenging life events along the way.

Term three included The Art Show, excursions/incursions, “big days out in lieu of a physical camp for our year 3-4 students, 100 days of foundation, Book Week activities, interschool sports and district athletic events and activities as part of the PE program, The Biannual science fair, the completion and official opening of our new building just to name a few.

A REMINDER THAT WE HAVE AN EARLY DISMISSAL TOMORROW FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER students will be dismissed at 2:30pm for the final day of term 3. Whole School Assembly Tomorrow, this Friday at 2:00pm sharp weather permitting. All members of our community are welcome to attend.

WELCOME TO ABBIE ROWLAND AND GOODBYE TO ONE OF OUR AMAZING EDUCATORS MS SMIT

We would like to welcome Ms Abbie Rowland who is currently working with Ms Smit-Geason completing a handover as she will officially step into the new teacher role of class FSG in term 4. Ms Smit will be taking a year of Leave as she travels to Europe and will be accepting a teaching position is Spain. We wish her all the very best and look forward to her updates and her return in 2026!

ART SHOW- congratulations to Mrs Katis and all our students

Last week we hosted our ART SHOW and what an amazing event displaying many high incredible art works. Through a high-quality arts program planned and delivered by Mrs Mary Katis we were able to view 2 pieces of student art works using a range of mediums. The art displayed creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression. The art show was also supported by a number of our Arts captains and student leaders who worked behind the scenes to help create the visual displays and support Mrs Katis.

Along with the show our amazing P&F hosted another very successful Bake sale and sold out all the treats, without parent involvement and support we would not be able to host such valuable events. Thank you to everyone that was able to come along and have another look at the new building where the event was hosted.

My absolutely favourite pieces were the Year 5-6 chocolate bars created with vibrant textas and the dream catchers from our foundations students who wrote a beautiful “dream” of what they would like to be when they “grow Up” so very cute! I wonder how many of those dreams will actually come true? I hope they all do!

OFFICIAL OPENING OF OUR NEW BUILDING

On Friday, 13th September 2024, at our afternoon school assembly our community gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion—the official opening of our brand-new school building! It was a day filled with joy, pride, and a shared sense of accomplishment for everyone who contributed to bringing this dream to life.

The ceremony itself was a beautiful reflection of our School spirit and our adorable Foundation students stole the show with their heartwarming song “furs, feathers and bones” and a wonderful duet from one of our senior students Liam along with the school's music teacher Ms Howden who helped set the tone for a gratitude-filled afternoon.

It was lovely to welcome the local MP’s, Mr Nick Staikos and Mr Ryan Batchelor sharing and reminding us of the achievements and perseverance that have guided us throughout this journey. Many thanks to all the school counsellors in attendance and to our Council President Mr Brent Jones and school Captains, who helped cut the ribbon and to our vice president Mr Sean Abell who helped welcome our community into the new classrooms once the official ceremony had concluded.

I cannot tell you all how proud I am of everyone’s hard work and how much joy it brings me as I see the children and staff teaching and learning in the new spaces.

R U OK? Day

Last week, was R U OK? Day. As a community its important to acknowledge these special days and “you just don’t know what everyone is dealing with” Events like these are not only about physically asking the question more often, but it is about intentionally showing others we care.

Last week Mr Corrigan and I put on a very small and mindful morning tea for the staff to highlight the Messages of the R U OK?.

One of our school values is’Thoughtful’ and I feel as though “RUOK? Day” is a way that we can highlight how we uphold and action that school value.

This year the ‘RUOK?’ theme is: Ask R U OK? Any day.

COMMUNITY VISIT FROM MORRABBIN POLICE

I was on yard duty this week and was able to welcome two constables who were driving by and had a bit of spare time and asked if they could mingle and “play” with the children. It was so lovely to see the studets engage, chat and play a very rigorous game of basketball with them. Thank you to the Moorabbin Police team we really appreciated you coming and visiting our school!

END OF TERM

I look back and reflect on the amazing community events, the athletics day outcomes, our working bee which was so well represented and 'wow', 'did we work hard' to achieve our goal of moving 12 classrooms into the new building. Thank you to the incredible hard work from our P&F and parent reps who have worked so tirelessly raising money, making sure there were a few social events for students and parents to attend and a very successful Trivia night, cake bake sale and Father day stall.

Over the break the portables that are in the front of the school will be removed and more new furniture will go into the new sapces along with general inspections, audits and maintenance work to keep our grounds and buildings safe. Thank you to those parents that call or grab me when I’m on duty and let me know of areas that need extra attention. I really appreciate you taking the time to inform me, please continue to do this as sometimes we do miss “bits”.

On behalf of our community I can’t thank everyone enough for all that we have achieved this term. For those travelling please do so safely and I hope that you are able to have some time with your children as I appreciate not all our working parents will have time off. We hope the children rest and recharge for the final term commencing Monday October 7th. A reminder that swimming starts on the first Monday back to term 4 for Foundation to year 4 students.

Our final curriculum day will be Monday 4th November (team kids will be offering service for parents that require it) and Tuesday 5th November is the Melbourne Cup (public holiday). No students onsite for these two days.
