To Strive, To Seek, To Care with HEART
Dear Families & Friends,
I’m looking out my window and watching the students and staff enjoy our first ever Space Out Festival which is part of R U Okay? Week. The brainchild of Stacey Gill and supported by Deputy Principal Tammy Hawkins, our counsellors Renee and Tim, our AIEW Joanna Campbell and Wellbeing Captains Rain and Tegan, the event will provide an opportunity for students to engage in mindfulness activities, provide avenues for discussing wellbeing and mental health, and connect with organizations in town who can support them.
A very big thank you to our sponsors Yeperenye Shopping Centre who provided the prizes for our competition that determined the most “chill” students who can stay on their mat and “space out” for 90 minutes.
It’s a fitting time in our term with the Year 12s completing the final school-based assessments before trial exams and final exams in Term 4. It’s also a time to check in with the actors and stagehands from our brilliant musical Annie. The four performances are a culmination of months of work since the beginning of the year. Another milestone of great note was Steve Kidd’s 25th musical for St Philip’s College. It is through Steve’s leadership and expertise and Kristina’s talents that our performing arts department is recognized throughout the town and the Territory.
Last week the FLECS Service Trip to Ti Tree with two staff, Alex Pollitt and Jenni Frank, together with seven students completed the second annual program with the primary and middle school students. This cultural immersion allowed students to build on their mentoring skills by supporting students in the classroom. Our science expert, Jenni Frank, enabled students to do chemistry and physics experiments. On Thursday, everyone helped to facilitate Mob Fest where music-based education takes centre stage, and students from Indigenous remote communities get the opportunity to share their achievements.
With one week to go in the term, I’d like to remind parents and guardians that parent teacher interviews are available on Thursday and Friday next week, the last two days of Term 3.
Upcoming in Term 4 is World Teachers’ Day. I’m looking for any parent available between 10:50 – 11:30 who could come and supervise yard duties that morning so all teachers can enjoy a morning tea. If you are interested, please contact our P&FA President, Yvette Valentine, at Reception on 8950 4511 to sign up.
Kind regards,
Leslie
