Teaching & Learning Term 2 Updates

Pivot Survey Results

As in previous years, our commitment as a school to open-mindedly welcoming student feedback, and to being reflective practitioners, means that we have again gathered data from our Pivot Surveys, providing students with the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback about teaching and learning happening in our school. Homestead staff have reviewed both the whole school feedback, as well as our own individual feedback, and have been utilising this to set goals moving forward.

Areas for celebration for Homestead included students reporting that all cultures were welcomed in our classrooms, that students have very clear expectations of the behaviours that they are expected to display, and that teachers have effective strategies for questioning, prompting students to share their learning.

Some of the areas our Pivot data suggests we could focus on compliment the work that our teachers are engaging in across terms 2 and 3, including building upon our existing revision programs and checks for understanding.

Pivot surveys will be conducted again in term 3, so that we can monitor our progress as a school.

Peer Observations

Across weeks 3 to 5, Homestead staff have been engaging in Peer Observations to continually reflect on and improve elements of our teaching practice. Informed by our Homestead Adaptive & Responsive Toolbox, the science of learning and Pivot Survey responses from students, teachers have set goals and will develop action plans based on their feedback.

Thank you to all classes that have been involved in our peer observations and have warmly welcomed our staff!

This term our teaching staff have begun engaging in peer observations, which involve all staff pairing up to undertake mutual classroom observations.

These visits form a large part of the professional development for Homestead teaching staff this term. The focus of these visits is determined by the classroom teacher using data obtained from students in the Pivot feedback survey last term. The data informed focus provides teachers a platform to discuss this area of practice with their observation peer and obtain feedback from their peer to determine areas of instructional strength and areas for further improvement.

These classroom visits demonstrate the commitment of teachers at homestead to make data informed decisions about student learning and teaching practice, and a culture of collaboration and collective efficacy.

Year 10 Health Expo

For the fourth year in a row, the Year 10 Health and Human Development students have hosted their Semester 1 Year 10 Health Expo, showcasing the new health knowledge they have developed through their studies this semester. As part of their assessment, students worked in groups to research a range of important health topics and create interactive stalls to share their findings with other classes.

Throughout the expo, visiting students and teachers had the opportunity to move through the stalls, learn about each topic, and take part in engaging activities designed by the Year 10s. The event was a fantastic way for students to build their research and presentation skills while educating their peers about key health issues affecting young people and the wider community.

The event was a huge success, with both students and teachers leaving with new knowledge about important health topics such as the importance of sleep, the risks of vaping, women's health and much more. A special thank you to Rose, our Year 10 Health teacher, for organising and running such a great event. Her hard work and support provided a valuable learning experience for all involved!
