Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope the break provided an opportunity for rest and connection, and that our students have returned ready for a productive and engaging term of learning.

We would like to thank all families who participated in our recent parent-teacher interviews. These conversations are a vital part of strengthening the partnership between home and school, and it was pleasing to see such strong engagement from our community. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to supporting each student’s learning, wellbeing, and growth. I also acknowledge the professionalism of our staff in providing clear, constructive feedback and guidance for next steps.

Term 2 is a significant period for consolidating learning and maintaining positive routines. We encourage all students to set clear goals, stay organised, and seek support when needed. Our staff remain committed to providing high-quality teaching and ensuring every student is supported to achieve their best. End of semester exams will be upon us before we know it and these consistent study routines will help every young person achieve their best.

As the weather becomes cooler, a reminder that all students are expected to wear only school uniform items. Non-school jumpers and jackets are not permitted.  Wearing the correct uniform promotes a sense of pride and belonging within our school community. It is also an important safety measure to ensure only our students are on school grounds. We appreciate the ongoing support of families in ensuring students are dressed appropriately each day.

We are pleased to introduce our new school puffer jacket, now available for purchase. This jacket has been designed to provide warmth and comfort while maintaining a consistent and professional school appearance. Also available is a puffer vest. Further details regarding purchasing can be found at our uniform supplier.

Believe it or not we are currently making preparations for 2027 pathways and there are many opportunities for students and families to be actively involved in this. Throughout the newsletter you will read about information sessions you can attend either in person or virtually and we strongly encourage you to make the most of these opportunities. We value the strong partnerships we have with our families and community and look forward to continuing this collaboration throughout the term. Together, we can ensure that every student is supported to thrive both academically and personally.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

Term Two is already moving quickly, and our Year 9 students have continued to throw themselves into school life with enthusiasm, energy and plenty of personality. From classroom learning to whole-school events, it has been fantastic to see students stepping up, supporting one another and making the most of the opportunities available to them.

Our Friday assemblies have been jam-packed with celebrations, important information and opportunities for students to begin thinking about their future pathways. Each week, we have been introducing programs and electives available in Year 10 as we begin preparing students for subject selections in Term 3. It is hard to believe how quickly this stage of schooling arrives.

Last week, students were reintroduced to the AVID elective by our AVID Leader, Ms Cole, alongside a student representative who shared their experiences within the program. It was a hard act to follow for Ms Faranda, who then introduced students to the opportunity to undertake a VCE subject in Year 10 through acceleration studies. Applications for both programs close this Friday.

Celebrations continue to be a key feature of our Year 9 assemblies. Student of the Week is one way we acknowledge the achievements and contributions of students both inside and outside the classroom.

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Rahaf Al Meri of 9F
  • Aldrienne of 9S
  • Nermeen Al-Sha’ban of 9G

Each of these students has consistently demonstrated our school values and leadership qualities throughout the term and is thoroughly deserving of this recognition. Well done, and keep up the fantastic work.

Our Tutor Challenge from Term 1 also heated up in the final days of term. Final points were awarded for attendance at Athletics Day, along with tutor group spirit and participation. The race was incredibly close and ultimately came down to the wire, with 9C taking out the cup and being crowned our first Tutor Challenge champions. Congratulations to 9C!

This term’s race is shaping up to be just as competitive, with 9S currently holding a narrow lead over 9D. With six weeks still to go, it remains anyone’s competition to win.

Our Student Voice electives have also proven to be an excellent opportunity for students to explore new interests and showcase their creativity. The chocolate chip cookies produced in Sweet Creations last week looked absolutely incredible. Meanwhile, students in Anatomy of Disease completed an intricate and complex experiment under the watchful eye of Ms Braddy.

In People, Power and Politics, students campaigned for important community issues, including the refurbishment of the Galvin Park oval and the development of a new app for local bus lines. Students created posters and petitions for their chosen causes with the guidance of Mr Damjanoski.

Across classes, students have continued developing their organisation, collaboration and study skills as we move deeper into the term. We encourage all students to stay on top of assessment dates, use their planners regularly and reach out to teachers if support is needed. Small habits now build strong foundations for future success.

A reminder to families that consistent attendance plays a significant role in student success, both academically and socially. Every lesson matters, and we appreciate the ongoing support from families in ensuring students arrive prepared and ready to learn each day.

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 9 students continue to represent the college through their effort, resilience and growing independence. We look forward to another busy and rewarding few weeks ahead.
