From the Principal's Desk

Welcome back to Term Two to all members of our Wyndham Central College community.
I trust that the Easter break provided families with an opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time together in preparation for the term ahead.
We commenced the term with our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday 23 April. This provided families with the valuable opportunity to connect with teachers, discuss student progress, and strengthen the important partnership between home and school. It was a busy and highly successful start to the term, and it was wonderful to see so many families engaging in these conversations to support their child’s learning journey.
On Friday 24 April, in the lead-up to the ANZAC Day commemoration, we paused as a school community to honour this significant occasion. During our dedicated Schoolwide session, students engaged in classroom reflections, recognising the sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our nation. This was complemented by a meaningful and symbolic ceremony led by our School Captains at the flagpoles on behalf of the entire school community. Their leadership, thoughtful reflection and respectful conduct during this commemoration made it a powerful experience for all. Lest we forget.
We are also incredibly proud of the enriching learning opportunities our students continue to access. This term, our Enrichment and STEM students had the extraordinary opportunity to meet Australian astronaut Dr Katherine Bennell-Pegg at the Wyndham Tech School. In true AVID spirit, our students asked thoughtful and insightful questions, demonstrating curiosity, courage and critical thinking. One particularly unique question, “What would you say to your younger self?”, was noted by Dr Bennell-Pegg as something she had never been asked before. It was an inspiring and memorable experience for all involved and highlighted the exceptional capabilities of our students. This event was followed by an outstanding Enrichment Showcase, where our Year 7–10 Enrichment students proudly presented their projects and learning.
This term also marks the beginning of the course selection period. Students are currently engaging in the development of their Career Action Plans (CAPs), which play an important role in supporting them to make informed decisions about their future pathways, programs and subject selections. The 2027 Course Handbooks are now available on the Careers Portal, providing valuable information to guide these decisions. We encourage families to work closely with their child during this process and to consider their interests, strengths and future aspirations as they begin to shape their pathway beyond school.
As we move through the term, students will also participate in examinations. These assessments are an important part of the learning process, helping to prepare students for future exams both at school and beyond. Exams provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding under structured conditions, while also building essential skills such as time management, organisation and resilience. At Wyndham Central College, we continue to explicitly teach and refine study skills, while also supporting students’ emotional wellbeing. This ensures that students are equipped with the academic and social-emotional skills needed to approach challenges with confidence and succeed in a range of situations.
Our values of Respect, Cooperation and Excellence remain central to everything we do. Students are explicitly taught and supported to demonstrate these values in their learning and social interactions, strengthening relationships, building resilience and encouraging accountability.
Our mantra, Creating a Community of High Expectations, reminds us all of our shared responsibility. We expect every student to strive for their best by meeting deadlines, wearing full school uniform, following school policies, and engaging fully in their learning and all aspects of school life. We encourage our students to extend themselves beyond expectations through consistent effort, including completing their AVID strategies, maintaining well-organised AVID binders, completing Cornell notes, and consolidating their learning through homework.
We greatly value the role of parents and carers as partners in education. Thank you to those who have actively engaged with the college through Parent-Teacher Interviews, Parent Information Evenings, AVID Family Night and the Enrichment Expo. We look forward to further opportunities this term.
Student voice remains a priority at Wyndham Central College. Throughout May, students will participate in the Attitudes to School Survey. This important feedback provides valuable insight into student experiences, wellbeing, engagement and learning, and directly informs our school improvement work. We encourage families to take the time to discuss with their child the opportunities they are offered at school and how these experiences are supporting their learning, engagement and overall school experience, helping students to reflect before completing the survey.
Term Two will continue to provide rich learning experiences, including excursions, sporting events and career opportunities. I encourage all families to stay connected and involved in our school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
