Term 2
The 11/12 ‘Make Your Own Game’ students continued to create games using the Hopscotch app, with some designing their own. Students then chose their favourite self made game, which has been published on this website: https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/secondary-1112-epicgames-2026/home Please have a look!
Students also created their own Minecraft worlds in groups, thinking about game design and what would be fun for the player to do. Lastly, they added their work to an individual website portfolio made in Google Sites. It was an excellent semester of work.

Digital music and songwriting have been explored through a number of mediums by all secondary sections. Students have composed music as a class using traditional lyric writing methods, beat making through a DAW (Ableton Live), and experimenting with AI prompting (Suno AI). This has led to some really impressive pieces of music. Secondary classes have also explored DJing and the basic functionality of a Pioneer DJ controller.

Students who chose the Invasion Games elective completed the final part of the program, trialling different game strategies across a range of sporting codes. Students enjoyed participating in soccer, indoor hockey and AFL, where they practised drills and modified games that highlighted the importance of working together as a team.
Selected students also joined the Concord Cross Country team, competing in 3 km events at School Sport Victoria (SSV) Banyule Division and Northern Metro Regional Cross Country Championships. Sixteen students participated in these events, with many progressing to the State Final next term.

The Year 11/12 Social Competency program this term focused on personal safety, with students exploring the health impacts and legal implications of recreational drug use. Students examined factors that influence decision making, including peer pressure, and practised strategies for responding safely in challenging situations. A significant focus was the impact of vaping on both health and everyday life. Students also explored community support services and worked through real life scenarios outside of school to identify safe and appropriate responses in different situations.
Secondary 11/12 students opened the term with writing, colouring and Pop Art‑themed name artworks featuring bold colours and patterns, a process that involved plenty of trial and error. For many, it was their first experience independently creating block lettering. Learners then progressed to higher‑level planning tasks, designing an intentional collaborative mosaic. They worked closely with peers to test arrangements and colour combinations while also developing concepts for a personal project of their choosing. Their thoughtful approach, creative risk‑taking and steady increase in confidence have been evident in every session.

Students in the Year 9 to 12 sections have excelled this term. They have made a range of Asian dishes, such as butter chicken, rice paper rolls, special fried rice and pakoras. They also explored European cuisine, including mini quiches, savoury meatballs, broccoli pesto pasta, Cornish pasties and an all time favourite, bangers and mash. Students have worked hard to improve their cutting, grating and kitchen skills, and have made great improvements in their attitude to teamwork.

Secondary 11/12 Science students have participated in the Crime Scene Investigators unit. Students engaged in a variety of hands on activities to learn about collecting and analysing finger and shoe prints. They used light microscopes to observe and draw a range of hair, fibres and blood samples. Students worked in groups to recreate blood spatter patterns using fake blood made in class. Each class participated in a mock investigation about a bog body called the Tollund Man. Students were required to collect and record evidence in a mock autopsy report and use this information to work out how the Tollund Man might have died. To finish off the unit, students will have the opportunity to meet a member of Victoria Police and see a presentation about what it is like to work in the Major Crimes Unit.

Drivers Ed students have continued to make fantastic progress towards becoming smart, empathetic road users. This term, the focus has been on specific road rules such as using roundabouts and how public transport shares the road safely with cars and bikes. Students have also shown impressive improvement in their practice learner tests, with more achieving passing marks.

Students have been participating in the Rock Climbing Program at two locations, La Trobe University and Bounce Inc. Throughout the program, students have been building their confidence, trust and independence while challenging themselves on a variety of climbing walls.
It has been fantastic to see students push themselves to climb to the top and step outside of their comfort zones. Students demonstrated great resilience and determination when attempting more challenging climbs, while also encouraging and supporting one another throughout the sessions. Their positive attitude and willingness to keep trying have been a highlight of the program.
