Wellbeing & Culture

A bit about religious celebrations & Harmony Week from our Intercultural and Wellbeing Captains

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan teaches about being kind and helping others as well as thinking about those in need.  It is Ramadan right now and we acknowledge that there are families in our community who are fasting during this time (which means not eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset).  Ramadan starts on March the 10th and ends on April 9th this year.

What is Shivratri?

Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of the deity Shiva, between February and March.  According to the Hindu calendar, the festival is observed on the fourteenth day of the first half of the lunar month of Phalguna.

Why do we celebrate cultural diversity?

We celebrate cultural diversity to respect, learn and acknowledge people's different cultures! Children who learn about different cultures feel safer and more comfortable with people's different cultures in their later life.

What is Harmony Day?

Harmony Day is about being inclusive, respectful and belonging in Australia, regardless of your cultural background, united by Australian values. It also celebrates multiculturalism and all belonging in the same place no matter your culture.

You might ask, why orange? Well, orange traditionally signifies social communication and meaningful conversations.

See you at our exciting Harmony Week all-school assembly tomorrow!
