PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome to the third edition of Community in the Year of Compassion. It gives me great pleasure to introduce this newsletter, our first since I assumed my new role as College Principal in Term 2.
The Arts Learning Area takes its rightful place in the spotlight this time around. Consider for a moment: without art, how would we express creativity? Art preserves culture, conveys stories, and creates a sense of belonging through shared meaning. In all its forms, art lifts us from our mundane existence and reveals what could be possible when we dream. –Surely, no one would choose to live in a world without illustration, books, or music.
Lucky for us, art is everywhere and more accessible than ever before. We need only visit a museum, attend a live performance, or open a web browser to discover new artists and their creations. These discoveries could even inspire us to create our own art, with the freedom to share it with others or keep it to ourselves.
Creative expression is vital, and we express creativity differently as we mature. In our youth, when we are still finding our place in the world, creatively expressing ourselves allows us to grow by exploring hobbies, making friends, and discovering talents that we may spend a lifetime honing.
Here at the college, we encourage our students to explore creative expression through visual arts (drawing, painting, and photography), literary arts (prose, poetry, and drama), and performing arts (dance, music, and theatre). You will be pleasantly surprised and delighted by our talented students. I hope you enjoy seeing examples of art in action and much more across the pages that follow.
Exceptional Student Excellence
From the beginning of Term 2, our students have impressed me with their eagerness to participate and get involved in all areas of college life.
A fortnight ago, the college celebrated our patron saint, St Joseph the Worker. First, we held our annual Feast Day Mass on Wednesday, 1 May. All year levels came together the next day for the Cross Country Carnival, the Feast Day Stalls, and the Carpenters Classic Concert. The majority of our students approached these events with a positive mindset and supported them wholeheartedly.
I commend the Year 12 cohort, especially, for diving into the spirit of the Carpenters Classic. They took the lead in setting the mood, and their encouragement to all performers throughout the event was overwhelming. It was a sensational day where the Arts, specifically music, theatre, dance, and song, brought the best out of everyone at St Joseph’s College. I look forward to more of this exceptional student excellence in the weeks ahead.
In the spirit of hope and faith
