We are very grateful to have 1:1 devices at St Mary’s and be an eSmart school. Next week we recognise and celebrate National eSmart Week. Keeping up with the latest technology, devices, games etc can be a challenge therefore it is vital we talk to our children and engage with them about their online habits and what they like to do. We realise the importance of the role teachers and trusted adults at home, play in assisting children with technology.

When speaking to senior students at St Marys’ they mention the challenges they face online and being able to turn to someone who they can trust when something makes them feel uncomfortable. From a young age at St Marys we promote the five trusted adults hand to encourage students to think about who they can talk to. Students in Year 6 have also been looking at their digital footprint and what they share that can be viewed publicly by anyone.

Around the school this week students may be completing an activity relating to eSmart week. This may be a nice opportunity to check in at home and ask your child about who they feel they can talk to. Below is an upcoming webinar should parents wish to learn more about “Parenting in the Digital World.”

Miss Rankin and Mr Richardson would also like to thank all the students from STEM club that helped clean up around the school before Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday March 3rd. These students did a terrific job and had a smile on their faces whilst helping and it showed that many hands make light work!
