Year 6 Leadership

Miss Summerell

Last week, Year Six went to the Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre for their leadership day. As soon as we got there the kids were filled with excitement and couldn’t wait to get off the bus. We met our conductor Stuart at the bullpen.

We started the day off with raft building. We split into groups of 5 to work together to build a raft. One of the groups successfully made their raft float. After the raft building we got a bit of free time in the pool.

We then had some delicious sausage and steak sandwiches for lunch followed by an amazing banana cake. After lunch we met at the bullpen again to have a talk with Stuart. He asked us some questions, such as how many people have landed on the moon. Many people got this question wrong but they didn't give up, Stuart finally told us the answer.

After our talk we went for a walk down a hill to find the location for our team building activities. Stuart grabbed a blanket with an X in the middle and in groups we tried to turn the blanket completely over without any of our teammates touching the ground. In two groups we then had to heel and toe walk from one end of the space to the other holding a block that each one of us had to place on top of a crate. The team who delivered all the blocks to the crate and made a cube out of them won. During this activity, making the cube was a struggle for both teams but with teamwork and perseverance the red team came home with the win completing their cube first.

Our leadership day taught us a lot about teamwork and how important it is to work together to get the job done.
