Message from the Principal
Mrs Bronwyn Underwood
Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the last week or so, children in Years 3 and 5 have completed the annual NAPLAN testing. Many thanks to Mrs Shepherd for coordinating the testing period at St Michael's. Results will become available in the coming months.
On Tuesday, March 12, our Year 6 class attended a Leadership Day at Lake Keepit. The children worked together in a variety of team building activities requiring patience and open, clear communication. Thankyou to Miss Summerell for organising this great event. We had a wonderful group leader from Lake Keepit who kept the children entertained and on their toes throughout the day.
This week, staff and parents/carers have been meeting to update Personalised Plans, particularly the adjustments that are made within the classroom to allow all children to access the curriculum in a fair and equitable way. Thanks to Mrs McNair for coordinating these very important discussions.
Last week, the Annual General Meeting of the St Michael's P&F Association was held. We farewelled outgoing President Mrs Catherine Northey. Catherine no longer has children at St Michael's, with her youngest now in Year 7 at McCarthy Catholic College in Tamworth. We also thanked Mrs Amber Kenafick for her many years of service as Treasurer. Amber did not seek reelection.
The 2024 P&F Committee for St Michael's is:
President: Mrs Jessica Coker
Vice President: Mrs Emma Coombes
Treasurer: Mrs Sarah Anderson
Secretary: Mrs Fiona Kelly
Congratulations to our office bearers and we look forward to another wonderful year working to enhance the educational facilities and resources for our students.
On Monday, girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 will travel into Tamworth to attend a meet and greet with Matilda's star Alex Chidiac at a special Women in Sport event for the school girls in the Tamworth region. Alex will talk about her journey to becoming a Matilda and host a Q&A for the girls present. This is an exciting opportunity for our senior girls to attend an event with other girls from around the area and hear the personal journey of a wonderful athlete who has achieved excellence in her chosen path. Our girls will accompanied by Miss Summerell, Miss Maunder and Ms Martin.
On behalf of the staff at St Michael's, I wish all families a happy and safe Easter period. Next week, we will host a variety of Easter Liturgies, commencing on Monday with Palm Sunday presented by Kindergarten. We will end our week with the Easter Hat parade after lunch on Thursday.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend,
Bronwyn
