Business as Usual

Business Fair for Charity

The Year 10 Commerce class ran a Business Fair for Charity at lunchtime on Monday 29th April in the A block courtyard.

In groups, the students had used their entrepreneurial skills to choose a product to make, advertise, and then sell to the school community. Stalls sold products such as sausages, cakes, doughnuts, sushi rolls, bracelets and soft drinks. It was a challenging undertaking which proved very successful and lots of fun for all the participants!

The advertising material which had been put up around the school generated lots of expectation and interest. The courtyard filled quickly with students from all year levels keen to see what was on sale. There was a buzz and a real market vibe as sellers sold to grateful customers! Most of the stalls were sold out by the end of lunchtime, and the sellers learned a lot from the experience:  “Very successful” ,“A good opportunity to learn how to handle money and manage inventory”, “I enjoyed the selling part…..bartering with the customers was fun” were just some of their comments.

The Year 10 Commerce class demonstrated great entrepreneurial flair, teamwork and planning skill. Each group did indeed make a profit at the Fair which they donated to Great Barrier Reef Foundation - a total profit of $558.90 was donated!

This charity was chosen by the group that had made the largest profit on the day – Milena Mohar, Holly Redican and Lucinda Blackmore (pictured above).

The total donation from all the stall holders was a great result!

Students and staff extend a big thank you to Ray Stivala (Facilities) for setting up the trestle tables and BBQ for the students. As you can see - it was a very busy event
