Making Connections

A lot of praise must go to all the 2024 Year 7 students who contributed so much to making this camp memorable and filled with fun, positivity, teamwork and helpfulness. It was awesome to see so many students embrace the Making Connections theme and to play their part in making the camp the huge success it was.

At the beginning of the camp, students were tasked with setting a Making Connections goal.  The closing activity of the camp revisited this task, with students reflecting on their recent camp experiences to inform their pledge toward making connections with their peers and others in their school community. 

The cohort were committed to this task, and took time to consider their responses  with students making pledges around this theme. The results speak for themselves - we have a Year 7 cohort full of thoughtful and kind students who want to make their community the best that it can be. 

Please read some of the pledges made below.

I pledge that...

I will talk to more people and be friendly with lots of different people.

I will connect with the people in my group including the teacher.

I'll make sure to help anyone if they need it.

I will always use positive language and not comment negatively for no reason about random people, even if other people are [making comments] and it's considered "cool".

I will not let myself get pulled into being the same as everyone else to fit in.

I will try to make connections with other people who I don't really know.

I will try and keep friendships I made in camp.

I will try to make more friends.

I will build positive connections by getting out of my comfort zone and talking/meeting new people. 

I will really encourage and support my teammates and friends.

I will make sure that the words I am saying are kind. I also pledge to be respectful of other’s opinions.

I will be more persistent.

I will spend more time with all my friends.

I will call out bullying.

l will make positive connections with my friends when l am doing school work.

I will endeavour to keep some of the connections that I made on camp.

I will help someone if they need it.

I will make as many people as I can feel happier.

I will help others.

I will do good.

I will be kind to everyone even if they’re not kind to me because I don't want any problems with anyone.

I will be social and active.

I will always try my best to include everybody in every activity and try to make everybody feel comfortable as much as possible.
