International Women’s Day STEM Excursion for selected Yr 9 and Yr 10 students

This event is held in partnership with SELLEN & Casey Tech, to raise the aspirations of female students and encourage them to remain in the STEM fields. 

The event attracts approximately 100 students from across the region, and they come together to hear from other women, employed in the STEM sector.

The success of the model and the event has quickly established it as an annual event in the SELLEN calendar.

Guest Speaker: Dr Morley Muse, iSTEM Group Co-Founder

Student feedback:

The Sellen Stem excursion was fun, and hearing Dr Morley talk about her experience was especially inspiring and motivating. It was also fun to make tote bags and jewellery with the Casey tech staff and talk with the industry guests during the lunch, as it was helpful in providing some insight into some lesser-known jobs in STEM.

This excursion was so interesting and entertaining, l would love to go again the women there were so sweet and were clear about what they were talking about. They really tried to connect with all of us, I learnt so much about different courses in the science field. 10/10 would go again!

Year 10 Work Experience from Monday 3rd June to Friday 7th June

Our annual Year 10 Work Experience program will run in June and allow students to discover an industry or specific job for a week to gain valuable insight and assist with future course and career decisions.  Students can access the Careers SPACE page to source additional information such as Arrangement Forms, Record sheets for employer contact, sample scripts for phone calls and emails etc.  There is also a list of previous employers used.  Some employers advertise their work experience program on their website and have strict application timelines.  Some students will use their networks with family and friends to confirm their placement.  If you have questions or want assistance in knowing more about how to make contact please visit your campus Careers Office.

Please encourage your child to confirm their work experience arrangements over the school holidays.  Extra forms and resources are available on the Careers Space page in the Work Experience folder.
