Principal News
End of term
The end of Term 1 is fast approaching and what a busy one it has been!
We thank our students, staff, parents/guardians and Brookside Community for their engagement and enthusiasm towards learning this term. It has been amazing to see our students engage in their learning along with participating in a number of experiences such as incursions, excursions, camps, swimming carnivals and interschool sports.
We wish all of our families a relaxing Easter break and hope you take this time to connect with family and friends.
Thursday 28th March marks the end of Term 1 and school will finish at 2:00pm on this day. Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) will be available via Camp Australia for families who are unable to arrange pick up at this time.
Easter Bonnet Parade
The annual Prep to 6 Easter Bonnet Parade was held on Monday 25th March on a lovely Autumn morning. There was an amazing array of crafty, creative hats and head pieces on show. What a wonderful display of our student’s creativity and sense of fun. A really big thank you to everyone who got involved.
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences (PTSC) will be held on Monday 22nd April. Families will have the option to book an interview and attend onsite or online via Webex. Please pay close attention to Compass as more information regarding PTSC will be sent out. Bookings will open on Thursday 28th March.
NAPLAN
The official NAPLAN testing period has come to an end and we are exceptionally proud of all of our Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students who participated.
Our students remained calm and positive throughout the experience and the attendance rate across all year levels were very high.
Thank you to our families for supporting your child/ren throughout this time. We expect the results later in the year, which will be communicated with students and parents once confirmed.
Gold Coast camp
We would like to welcome back all the staff and students that attended the Year 9 Camp to the Gold Coast. Students have returned safely and have reported that they ‘had the time of their life’.
Students visited three theme parks; Movie World, Sea World and Wet ‘N’ Wild. Days were spent swimming and playing competitive games of volleyball. The dinners were a highlight with students reporting La Porchetta and Fish and Chips as the standouts.
We would like to thank all the staff that attended the Camp, taking great care of our Year 9’s.
Celebrating Cultural Diversity and Inclusion at Brookside
On Thursday 21st March students in Prep to Year 9 were invited to wear something that represented their culture or a SPLASH of orange.
If you were fortunate enough to walk through the college on Thursday, you would have seen the sea of colour, with so many of our students proudly wearing their cultural dress. Amongst all of this colour was the dominant colour of orange.
With orange being the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week, it was great to see so many students show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
Our state is home to people who speak 290 languages and have 314 different ancestries. Many of these were represented by our students across college through cultural dress or other cultural accessories.
We look forward to celebrating this event again in the future and thank our community for your support.
Student Leadership
Student leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of individuals and communities alike. Student leaders serve as catalysts for positive change, driving innovation, fostering inclusivity, and inspiring others to reach their fullest potential. On Thursday 28th March at our end of Term assembly, we will be acknowledging our student leaders here at Brookside. Our College Captains, House Leaders, School Council representatives and Student Voice Leaders will all be acknowledged at the assembly. A celebration with these students and their families will follow at the HOL Café. We would like to officially congratulate these students on their leadership positions, you should all be very proud.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Shop
A key element of our Positive Behaviour Support at Brookside is our Termly shop. On Tuesday 26th March students across the College had the opportunity to spend or save their Brookside bucks. The Brookside bucks are the tangible acknowledgement that students receive when given a 4R superstar award for demonstrating our expected behaviours and school values. Staff members hand these out throughout the term and students then have the opportunity to purchase items from the shop in exchange. Students may also save their bucks to spend on more expensive items. The shop was, once again, a hit with the students and we look forward to some bigger prizes being purchased later in the year.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Easter break and we will see everyone back in Term 2.
