Building an Engaging Learning Community

In 35 days we have…

• Learned that words in a sentence have a gap between them and we call these gaps finger spaces
• Learnt that capital letters are at the start of a sentence or used for names
• Learnt about full stops and that they are at the end of a sentence
• Identified words that rhyme
• Learnt science stuff
• Learnt how to say a prayer in Italian
• Learnt about the small Plover birds
• Worked as a team in the Prep Space
• Learnt about numbers
• Made patterns and explained that they can grow or repeat
• Used brain breaks to help us grow and reset
• Learnt about God and his house called the Church
• Learnt about Jesus and how we can be like him
• Learned how to clap out words - syllables
• Learned how to listen to sounds and put them together to say words
• Played with friends
• Borrowed books from our library
• Played outside and learnt new sporting skills
• Sung lots of songs and danced
• Investigated in our dramatic play spaces, using our imaginations and being extra creative
• Been mindful
• Been responsible
• Been learners
• Had fun!!

We learned about 4 new InitiaLit characters - Maggie Mouse, Sammy Seal,  Tommy Tiger, and Andy Ant. These characters start with the letters we have learnt and the sounds they make. 

Patterns can grow or repeat. Did you know that the days of the week are a repeating pattern? We made days of the week paper chains and linked them together to show how they repeat.

We loved singing about the days of the week and learning that there are 7 days - 5 school days

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 2 weekend days, Saturday and Sunday. 

Numbers are all around us. Our age is a number, the date, our house has a number, the total of our class, even the amount in our family! Collections, numerals or words can represent numbers. We call this a number triad. Counting forwards and backwards daily is building our number fluency. Counting up to 5, then to 10 then to 20 and sometimes beyond. What can you count up to?

Numerals can be tricky to write so we have been practising our correct number formation. 

Our community is full of wonderful people who can help us stay safe and healthy. During FBI we have been exploring what it means to be healthy and how exercise and being active can help us to stay healthy.  We have many community workers who help us remain safe and healthy, they are, Firefighters, Police, SES, Ambulance service and Paramedics, Doctors, Dentists, and our sporting coaches!  

One of the best things about being in Prep at St Joey's is our amazing Buddies!

We love spending time with our buddies. Our Buddies are fun and THE BEST!
