Religious Dimension

I hope your Easter Celebration this weekend will provide an opportunity for your family to relax and enjoy one another’s company as we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Sometimes Easter can be a very busy time in our lives with visiting friends, making special meals and travelling to different places for a holiday break, not to mention the ‘chocolate!’  Taking time and ‘calling to mind’ the Death and Resurrection of Jesus is central to our Catholic faith.

Just as Jesus showed compassion to the outcasts of society and to those who suffered oppression and discrimination, it is also relevant for each of us to consider how we can meet these same challenges that we face in our daily lives.  Do I alienate others?  How do I relate to others? Am I forgiving?  Do I exclude others? Do I show compassion and kindness to others?   Am I the best person Jesus wants me to be?

On behalf of all the staff at St Joseph's Sorrento, I wish you and your family a very happy and blessed Easter.

Holy Week: Growing closer to Jesus

Holy Week, the most sacred and special time in our Church year, as we remember with love the Passion, Resurrection of Jesus and the events which led up to this. There is a lesson for each of us during Holy Week through the 'witnessing' of our Lord's love for us, reminding us to open our hearts to one another, as he has opened his heart for us. The three days or the Paschal Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, are the most important celebrations during Holy Week and of the Liturgical year. The Paschal Triduum begins on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper where we recall the actions of the Jesus with his Disciples at their Passover meal. Jesus teaches by example the new commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you. “

Good Friday follows with the Passion of the Lord. The events of Good Friday are commemorated in the Stations of the Cross. The Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday is illuminated by the Paschal Candle, we remember our baptismal promises and wait in anticipation of restored life.

Easter Sunday – a new day dawns. The Sunday of Jesus Resurrection reminding us that Jesus lives and he welcomes us in a new life with him. Easter Sunday is the first day of 50 days of continuous celebration that Christ lives. Christ has risen, truly he has risen, and we are risen in Him.

May Holy Week 2024 be a time of renewal and grace for each of us.

THANK-YOU

A very big thank-you to all our staff, students and parents who helped celebrate our St Joseph's Day celebration. Students began the day gathering together at Mass. Father Angelo spoke about St Joseph being a good friend to all. Students then worked in multi-age groups to learn about his qualities.

In the afternoon students walked to Sorrento Park and were involved in the colour fun run.

A very big thank-you to all the parents who came to support and help on this day.
