Guidance Officer Week

This week, the Department of Education Queensland celebrates 76 years of guidance support in Queensland state school communities. Guidance officers provide counselling and advice on educational, career, personal, mental health and wellbeing issues for students. We would like to thank Mrs Natalie Morris our Guidance Officer here at Palm Beach. Thank-you Nat for all you do for the staff and students at PBSS!

New shade sails – Year 2 and 3 area

Over the recent school holidays shade sails were erected in the Year 2 and 3 area. These are a great addition to our school and will be welcomed by students where they can seek some more shade during break times.

A huge thank-you to our 2023 student council who advocated for these sails after listening to the voice of the student sin the school. They then donated some of their fundraising toward this project.

ANZAC Ceremony

Our school paid our respects to our service men and women this year with a moving ANZAC ceremony on Wednesday. Our students were exceptionally well behaved during this commemoration and our school leaders did an excellent job running this event. During the assembly, our choir performed and they were unbelievable! Thank you Mrs Riordan!

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr Ian Cameron who started our assembly playing the bagpipes. This was very moving and all students, staff and our community were fixated during Dr Cameron’s playing. I have had several parents comment on how moving our ceremony was and how firring the bagpipes were!

On ANZAC Day on Thursday, we had a great turn out of  students march to represent Palm Beach SS at the Currumbin RSL Anzac Day March. Well-done Palm Beach SS!

Interschool sport

Last week was the beginning of Interschool Sport for this term. This year we have had an explosion in numbers and have been able to field numerous teams in Rugby League, Soccer, Netball and AFL. Thank-you to our coaches for taking teams this year and their dedication to giving up time before and after school and also during lunchtimes. This year our coaches will wear Palm Beach SS Coach shirts while they are taking their teams to sport and they look great.

A huge thank-you to Chappy for sourcing a grant to fund our new netball singlets. These look excellent and are being worn with pride by our netball teams. Thanks Chappy!

50th Year Celebrations

This year is Palm Beach State School’s 50th Year.  In light of this celebration, we are seeking past students that attended PBSS from the year the school opened in 1974, to share stories, photos and memorabilia. If this is you or you know of someone please contact our marketing manager Mellany Hopgood mgard125@eq.edu.au

We have some exciting upcoming events planned so please keep your eyes on social media and other school communication for information.

Wall of Fame

This term we have started a new initiative to celebrate the great classwork of our students. The ‘Wall of Fame’ will showcase great examples of student work and will be displayed in our library, please feel free to look at the wall and the amazing student work between 8:15 and 8:30am.

A huge congratulations to our first ‘Wall of Fame’ inductees; Mia, Greer, Hudson, Beau, James, Ada, Stella and Frankie.

Winter Uniform

With the colder weather approaching, please information about our winter uniform from the Palm Beach State School Dress Code and Appearance Policy below.

•             In winter months students may wear a plain navy blue sweatshirt (no hood) over the     official school uniform and plain navy tracksuit pants.

•             Navy leggings and tights may be worn under the skort NOT on their own

Playgrounds

Please remember that all playgrounds are out of bounds before and after school. Even with parental supervision, students and their siblings are not permitted to play on this equipment. This is to ensure the safety of students on our school grounds.

Staff carparks

Lately we have had some unfortunate near misses and some avoidable incidents due to parents parking in staff carparks. Please remember these carparks are for staff only. The safety of our student remains our number one priority so I thank you for your support in not parking in staff carparks.
