INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action gender parity.  This year the focus is on inspiring others to understand and value women's inclusion because when we are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

Last year, the World Economic Forum reported that in 2023 the global gender gap for 146 countries receded to 2020 levels – and it's now estimated that it will take 131 years to close the gender gap and reach full parity.

Even though we are surrounded by amazing staff at BSC, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of all the women that make BSC a wonderful place.  We also want to pay homage to the Australian women who have dedicated their lives to education, and we extend our appreciation to all those around the world.

In our classrooms, we witness the power of education to transform lives. We’re not just educators; we are inspiring the next generation. Having said that, we cant forget we often encounter barriers that hinder our progress and limit our potential.

Today, on International Women's Day, we reaffirm our commitment to breaking down these barriers.  We recognize that gender inequality persists in our society and acknowledge the importance of inclusive practices in education. Inclusion is not about tolerance; it is about embracing diversity, celebrating differences, and creating environments where every individual feels valued and empowered.

As educators, we have a profound responsibility to create inclusive spaces where all students, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or background, can thrive and succeed. We must always challenge stereotypes, dismantle biases, and create a culture of respect and acceptance.

Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond the walls of our classrooms at BSC. It includes our interactions with colleagues, our engagement with parents and communities, and our advocacy for systemic change. We must be allies in the fight for gender equality, giving women and girls voices, and advocating for policies that promote equity and justice.

So, Colleagues, we have the power to build futures that are endless in possibilities. We should all embrace this opportunity to break barriers and to challenge norms.  All of us at BSC should value equality and inclusion, remembering that breaking barriers today will mean we are building better futures for generations to come.
