ACTING PRINCIPAL REPORT

Dear Families,

Last Thursday evening we were thrilled to see so many of our families attend the Year 7 Parents/Carer’s evening. Our staff and students ran 5 different sessions that allowed families to rotate and learn more about life in Year 7;  the curriculum, leadership opportunities, wellbeing, how to get involved at BSC and use Compass effectively to keep in touch with your child(s) learning. It was great to see so many parents/carers connecting with one another and our school. We feel privileged to be supporting your children through this important learning journey. Watching students grow, develop, and thrive as they move through secondary to year 12 is truly a joy.

Strengthening our partnership with home and school is an important focus for us this year. As parents, we know our children come first, and at Brighton Secondary College our students come first. They are at the centre of everything we do and the decisions we make. I strongly encourage parents to attend our events and volunteer where possible (World’s Greatest Shave, House Athletics/Sport events, Open nights). The most successful schools are those where the community and school, works together with a common understanding. Our aim is to ensure parents/carers feel just as much a part of this wonderful school community as students.

We continue our work to build a safe and inclusive environment at BSC through education about the impacts of discrimination and how acting as an Upstander is something we can all do to contribute. This week we invited ‘Courage to Care’ to run sessions with our Year 7-10 students which allowed our students to engage in discussions about their own perceptions and circumstances and consider ways staff and students can make a difference in our school through Upstander behaviour. We are looking forward to have the Courage to Care staff return next Tuesday to run sessions with our Year 11 and Year 12 students.

I wish everyone a relaxing weekend.
