Writing
CURRICULUM FOCUS
As part of our weekly writing block we will continue with one of our focuses- recount writing.
VOCABULARY
Recount: a piece of writing about something you have done for example, something you did on the weekend, a birthday party you went to, a holiday you went on etc.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
With your child discuss something they have done in the past that they would like to write a sentence or two about.
Begin by asking your child to draw a picture of what they want to write about.
Next, ask them to tell you the sentence they would like to write.
Then, give your child time to have a go at ‘writing’ their sentence. Remember, they may only be able to write the first sound of each word. Other writing strategies your child might display are spelling some of their Magic 100 words within their sentence, recording the beginning and end sound of each word, using a full stop at the end of their sentence.
