From Mr Coppin

As the Term Ends...

We cherish the diversity of our community but also take time to honour our Anglican Tradition at our end of Term 2 Church Services for K-Year 3 and Year 4 to Year 6.  It is always powerful to pause and reflect with this beautifully written prayer by our Junior School Captain Erykah Skimin:

"Dear God, thank you for bringing us to this day and shining your light upon us. May your boundless love and grace wash over us today and everyday, helping us to forgive our friends and know that we are forgiven. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful school with caring teachers and friends, and for giving us our loving families. We thank you for all those you have brought into our lives to lead us, to guide us and to protect us, our parents, teachers and friends. We pray that you bless our Kambala community now and forever. Grant us the strength to learn from our mistakes and to grow into better people. Be our guide and watch over us in everything we do. As this term comes to an end, help us to continue working hard next term and throughout this whole year in your name we pray

Amen"

Mr Coppin goes to Oxford

I have been overwhelmed by your kind words and messages of support regarding my sabbatical/study leave.  For those who may have missed this, please see the communication shared by the school earlier this week.

I look forward to my return to Kambala from the beginning of Week 6 Term 3 - Monday 26 August 2024.

Dear Junior School Families,

2024 marks my ninth year as Head of Junior School at Kambala. It has been an honour to hold this role during that time. Additionally, 2024 marks my 20th year at high performing Anglican Girls’ Schools and my 26th year in education.

As such, I am taking time for a Sabbatical (study leave) for refreshment and rejuvenation for the first five weeks of Term 3. I have been the fortunate recipient of an IPSHA (Heads of Junior School) Study Grant to support this endeavour. I will return to the Fair Hill on Monday 26 August 2024.

During leave I will be attending and presenting at the International Roundtable Symposium at Oxford University, the focus is Global Awareness and Education. I will also be attending an Educational Leadership Course at Oxford University and I will be visiting a number of schools to witness their approach to education.

During my absence, Miss Samantha Gooch will be our Acting Head of Junior School.  Samantha is presently our Executive Director of KITE (Kambala Institute of Teaching Excellence). She is an experienced educator having taught in the Junior School from 2008 to 2019.  She has previously been our Director of Curriculum 2017 to 2019 as well as being our Acting Deputy Head of Junior School in 2016.  Miss Gooch looks forward to reconnecting with and meeting our Junior School students and families.

Miss Gooch will be ably supported by Kate Moore, Deputy Head of Junior School and Ky-Lee Murphy Director of Curriculum so that continuity is maintained.

I thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to my return to Kambala for the second half of Term 3.

Warm wishes

Stuart Coppin

Deputy Principal - Head of Junior School

ICAS Assessments

Kambala is pleased to offer our students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to participate in the ICAS Assessments, which will take place in Term 3. This year, our students can nominate to sit the English, Science and/or Mathematics assessments. The assessments are designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

The dates for each competition are as follows:

English - Monday 12 August 2024

Science- Monday 19 August 2024

Mathematics- Monday 26 August 2024

If you would like your daughter to enter any or all of these ICAS competitions, please submit the online form via the link below. Please note this is optional and the girls will be taken out of class to participate in this competition.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition and development. All students receive a certificate and an individual student report with their score and achievement level.

Please consider carefully before choosing this enrichment opportunity for your daughter. It is a rigorous competition with many questions set beyond grade level. Participants are required to demonstrate a deeper, integrated and thorough level of learning. Please note that most schools only enter their most capable students, so the averages are very high.

More information about the assessments can be found at ICAS Assessments: Home

Please submit this Online form as soon as possible so that entries into the competition can be finalised. Please submit one form per sibling. The closing date for notifying your daughter’s participation is Friday 26 July 2024 (end of Week 1, Term 3).
