5/6 Glenys Howard and Levi Hudson

Our study of non-fiction texts has continued over the last two weeks as we focussed on procedural texts. The reading task last week included following the instructions to create some crafty items; some were easy, some were a bit harder! Everyone enjoyed the challenge and had a bit of fun as well!

We are creating a poetry anthology as part of our writing lessons and so far we have created acrostic poems as well as shape poems. This week we focus on creating  'blackout' poems from a piece of text. This is a challenging, but satisfying way to create an unusual poem. We are looking forward to sharing our anthologies with the rest of our team at the end of next week.

In maths last week we worked with pattern, in number and shape. We created one and two step number patterns as well as patterns made by transforming shapes. We also revisited our work on factors and mulitples and how to find the prime factors of a number. Those of us who wanted to challenge ourselves then represented our findings using index notation.  This week our work centres around lines and angles. We will use a protractor to measure and create angles, as well as identify angles all around us. We will study interior and exterior angles as well as corresponding angles.
