In Literacy over the past two weeks we have been changing Tiddalick, a Dreamtime story into a mini play. Each student chose an animal from this story to practise reading like the character; with expression and fluency. We made props and learnt about Indigenous music with a didgeridoo. We made our own clap sticks with markings which told a story, using Indigenous markings. Students loved learning about Indigenous Dreamtime stories and playing their part. Parents are invited to see us perform this play on Friday 28.6.24 at 2.10pm.( last day of term)

This week we continued our work with decoding strategies to work out unknown words in our reading. These decoding reading strategies have been stuck into every reading diary.

In writing we have been working on extending our sentences with compound sentences and editing to make sure our sentences make sense, have uppercase letters to begin, spaces and ending punctuation. In Maths last week we used think borads to extend our subtraction with drawing of pictures, number lines and finding the difference. This week we have been learning about  length, mass, patterns and graphing. Ask your child about graphing Clinkers ( yes the lollies)! We have also learnt about patterns.

I  visited the Kindergartens and Child Care Centres in Bunyip this week. If you have a child starting school next year or if you know of a family who have a child starting school in 2025, please let them know about our transition dates, which can be found at the office.

Please remember our 100 Days of School is creeping closer.

Friday 19th of July we will be celebrating 100 days of school. We will be having a class party with the theme of ‘100’. Please encourage your child to dress up with this theme in mind such as 100 stickers, 100 ribbons or as a 100 year old person! Free dress and please bring in 100 of something such as marbles, stones, pasta to count. Students can bring in their favourite G rated movie, CD or board game. Please ensure everything is named.

Students Of The Week

Congratulations to Joel who was voted in by his classmates to be last week's Star Of The Week. Students said he is respectful, always treating people kindly.

Congratulations to Adeline for being voted in this week as our Student Of The Week. Students said Adeline was so kind, helping students who don't feel themselves, when sad.

Well done Joel and Adeline; Prep Guy are super proud of you both.

Over the last two weeks students have been continuing our studies on Informative Texts. We have read texts on Kangaroos and Blue Ringed Octopus and have been making inferences on what we think the text will be about based on the heading and the pictures. We have also been reading and identifying the main idea of the text. When learning about our sounds we have explored the /oi/, /ow/and /ear/ sound. Students have been looking at images containing these sounds and having a go at using known letter sounds to record what the names of the objects.

In Writing, students have hand published one of our information reports and are continuing to write an information reports on kangaroos based on the the text we read during our reading sessions. We are so proud of the effort students have made to work on their neatness.

In Maths, students have been using Thinkboards when solving subtraction problems. Students have recorded number sentences, made worded stories to match their number sentence and shown how they solved them through drawings, using objects and number lines. This week students have begun to identify the difference between two numbers.

Student Achievers:

Our student achievers for the last fortnight have been Sophie and Fletch! Well done Sophie on consistently showing respect and being a responsible member of the classroom.  Fletch, you have been trying so hard with your learning and concentration which reflects on our school value of Responsibility. Boo Ya Legends!
