Grade 5 - 6
Grade 5/6
Staff vs students! As per Grayling tradition, our termly game of staff vs students was a fiercely contested best of 3 series in Dodgeball! After two intense matches, the score was set at 1-1.. Grade 6 students were on the cusp of history, possibly recording the first ever student victory over staff in any match.. Back and forth, the momentum of the match swung, with dynamic catches, swerve balls thrown and sore hamstrings earnt by our ageing staff. But it was the veteran experience that prevailed, with staff snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, maintaining a 5 year undefeated dynasty that rivals those of the Chicago Bulls 96 team or the Queensland State of Origin immortals. Will they ever be beaten? Can they ever be beaten? Guess we will find out in the next staff vs students encounter in term 3!
Geography
To conclude our term focus of geography, students have been creating digital presentations upon researching famous cities from around the Americas and Europe. Students have been conducting research, ensuring they are using information from reliable and valid websites and collating their research into planners. They have used these planners to inform their presentations and continue to wow us teachers with their creativity and enthusiasm when engaging with different technology.
Melbourne Demon Player Visit
Our Grade ⅚ cohort had the absolute pleasure of meeting AFL superstar from the Melbourne Demons Football Club including Stephen May and Kade Chandler. Students were awarded multiple prizes including mini footys, key chains and sticker and had the chance to interview the players. There were some cracking questions including”what was the weirdest thing you’ve signed?”, answered with ‘a spaghetti can 10 minutes ago.’ “What are some cons of being a famous footy player?”, answered with ‘not getting to have privacy sometimes and how hard the training regime is.” And “If you didn't become a footy player, what would you do?” answered with “play golf or get on the tools.” The Melbourne footy players and senior school students had a great time connecting, sharing some laughs and insight on the lives on and off the field of some of the AFLs most famous players!
