Grade 2

Grade 2

Spelling:

Over the last two weeks, we have learnt how to spell two syllable words by breaking them into their syllables. We have continued to learn and practice spelling tricky words. As the term has come to an end, we have reviewed some of the spelling choices and tricky words we learnt throughout the term. We are so proud of the progress our Year 2 students have made in their spelling knowledge and how it is reflected in their writing pieces.

Comprehension:

Our readers have continued to learn to ask questions before, during and after reading to help them understand what they are reading. We read a text called ‘Starfish’ and were amazed to learn that if a starfish loses a leg, it can grow it back!

Writing:

We concluded our Procedure Writing unit by making delicious fairy bread and writing a procedure titled ‘How to Make Fairy Bread’. We loved to see how detailed our students' writing was and all the wonderful adjectives they included. We have now began learning about Narrative Adaptations, where we read a familiar narrative and then change it to make it our own! So far we have changed the characters and setting of the story Jack and The Beanstalk. Our writers created some fantastic stories including Miss Chellew and the Snow Mountain and The Easter Bunny and The Igloo.

Maths:

Our students have been reviewing the foundational concept of place value, refining their understanding through various engaging activities. They have been diligently practising expanded form, where they break down numbers into their component parts to understand the value of each digit. Additionally, they've been mastering different ways to represent numbers, whether through drawings, manipulatives, or written forms. Through fun games and interactive lessons, they've also been sharpening their skills in ordering numbers, learning how to arrange digits from smallest to largest or vice versa. We're incredibly proud of their progress and their growing confidence in handling numerical concepts, setting a strong foundation for their mathematical journey ahead.

School Disco:

We had so much fun dancing the night away together at the school disco! Everyone wore their best outfits and danced the night away with their friends.
