National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually where all children across Australia and New Zealand will be reading the same book at the same time. The book this year is Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Year 1 tuned in online, and we listened to Aura reading the book out. The students were very engaged when listening to the story, and they shared lots of interesting facts on what they know about bowerbirds, such as the male bowerbird builds the bower to attract the female bowerbird. We then completed a range of activities based on the story, such as drawing all the blue things, writing facts about bowerbird and other craft activities.

Math

Students have been learning to build on multiplicative thinking by working with challenging and open-ended prompts. An example of one of the prompts is, 'there are 4 elephants riding tricycles, one elephant on each tricycle, how many wheels are there?' 'What about 8 tricycles?' Students then used various strategies to solve the problem. They have also continued to practise skip counting by grouping the collection into 2, 5 or 10, then skip counting in groups.
