Our first incursion - Toys Over Time

Students were able to study, explore and (most importantly) play with toys from history, right up to the present day. They went around in groups, engaging in different types of play. There was a Construction Zone, where children could build their own Mr Potato Head, put together elaborate Hot Wheels race circuits, or build marble runs.

Next, we had the Skills Based Zone, which involved classic games such as the cup and ball, slinky and marble mazes. This was followed by the Up and About Zone, where students had to get moving using stilts, throwing games, bowling skittles and trundle toys.

Finally, we had the Imagination Station, where students were encouraged to dress up, and role play, with students running small cafes and coffee shops (in the traditional Melbourne style).

At the centre of the incursion, we had the Toy Museum - a selection of toys from across the years, ranging from Jack in the Box to Furby, Tamagotchi, Matchbox cars and Gameboys.

The variety of different toys really helped the children to understand what has changed and what has stayed the same in the world of toys. They learnt so much about the toymaking process and recognised that toys which look old can still be fun, especially if you use your imagination.
