Message from the Principal

St Peter’s School - an empowered faith community to enrich the world.

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week 1 of Term 3!

It is good to be back! Thank you to all for enabling me to have a relaxing term away. I especially thank Belinda Mihalicek and Iris Devisser for stepping in as Acting Principal and Acting Deputy Principal and to all staff for their support.

I urge you to look at the 'Important Dates' page and take note of the events for this term. It is a  busy term with a variety of experiences for our students. Of biggest excitement is our performance of Monumental Mayhem! Please ensure Monday 16 September is locked in. This year we will be holding the performance off site at Alexander Theatre, Monash University. Tickets will be available closer to the date. Watch this space!!

Student-Led Conferences

We will be holding Student-Led Conferences next week on Thursday, 25th July. On this day, the school will be open from 2 pm to 5 pm for your child to share their learning with you. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit the classroom and celebrate your child's progress. They will proudly share their current learning goals and show you around their learning space. Please note that this will not be a time for one-on-one discussions with the class teacher.

To facilitate this celebration of learning, the school will finish at 1:15 pm on Thursday 25 July. Camp Australia will be available from this time for families needing this service.

Please check school bags for an invitation from your child.

Farewell Ms K

You may have heard the news that Ms K (Ms Nerissa Kinnaird) has decided to resign from St Peter’s as she prepares to move away from Melbourne.

Ms K has been part of our school, parish, and community for over twelve years, playing a vital role in supporting our children, families, and staff. We thank Ms K for her dedication and wish her the best in her endeavours.

Please join us in thanking and bidding farewell to Nerissa on Wednesday 31 July. We will have an assembly at 2:30 p.m., followed by an afternoon tea in the hall right after school.

For catering, please email principal@spclayton.catholic.edu.au to advise if your family will be joining us for afternoon tea.

2024 NAPLAN

We received 2024 NAPLAN results this week, and are so proud of the students in Years 3 and 5 for their achievements. They should also be proud of the effort and growth mindset that resulted in these results.

As a school, we have not had a chance to analyse the data, but a quick glance shows that our Year 3 students excelled in Writing and Spelling, with 78% achieving Strong/Exceeding in both areas while our Year 5 students also excelled in Writing and Spelling with 80% of students achieving Strong or Exceeding and 84% of achieving Strong/Exceeding in Reading. As a staff we look forward to delving deeper in to this data to celebrate the achievement of our students.

Year 7 2026

Just a reminder to our Year 5 families that Year 7 2026 enrolment applications for our local Catholic schools are closing on Friday, 16 August 2024.

PAM Profiles

As we start a new Semester, please check the information you have shared with us via the PAM app. Do we have correct phone numbers, address for your family? Most importantly please check that all the medical information is up to date. Has there been a recent diagnosis of an allergy, asthma? It is vital that we are up to date with the relevant information.

Birthdays

We all love celebrating birthdays! (maybe just other peoples?)

We are happy for you to bring something to school for your child’s birthday. However, there is no expectation to do this. If you wish to provide something, non-food items are preferred. Please ensure any items are in individual bags or boxes that students can take home. If you do provide a food item it is essential that all ingredients are listed so we can keep those students with allergies and anaphylaxis safe. We thank you for your understanding.
