YEAR 4 JAPAN EXPO

In Geography this Semester, Year 4 has been learning about the rich and varied cultures, landmarks, climates, ecosystems, and native wildlife of Australia and Japan. Through this exploration, students gained a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences between the two countries. Students created a Japan Expo showcasing everything they have learnt about the Japanese culture and way of life which they shared with the St Aidan’s Community during open classrooms on Tuesday 4 November. 

YEAR 1 & YEAR 3 CENTENNIAL PARK EXCURSION

On Wednesday 5 November, Year 1 and Year 3 went on an excursion to Centennial Park as part of their Geography unit. Here are some recounts from the students.

Our Year 3 excursion was so much fun! We learnt how to read maps and what the important parts of a map are. We had to find different plants and mark them on a map of Wild Play. Then we looked at a map of Australia and found where those plants grow. We talked about what the weather is like in those places. It was really cool!

Year 3 had the best time at Centennial Park! We got to explore Wild Play and run around while finding different pictures on the maps. We used our map reading skills to match the numbers with the plants. It was really fun and we learnt a lot!

We went to Centennial Park and learnt all about maps. The rangers taught us about BOLTS, which are the important things every map needs. We looked at different maps and checked if they had all the features. After that, we had lots of fun playing at Wild Play and enjoyed our lunch in the park.

On Wednesday 5 November, Year 1 went on a lovely excursion to Centennial Park. We walked to the labyrinth and walked around it to get in the middle. Next we went to a place where the bats are and we learnt that baby bats are born like people. Then we went to an exciting activity called dip net and caught creatures in the pond. Finally we created a mud map using materials like leaves.

On Wednesday we went on an excursion to Centennial Park. We walked to the circular maze and ran around it. Next we went to the forest and we saw dragonflies and ladybugs. We also saw bats on trees. My favourite part was when we dipped the nets into the pond to catch little creatures. Finally, we made mud maps out of flowers, leaves and bark.
