Primary Art Recap

During term three the Art Room was turned into an underwater world. The Primary students developed their construction skills and made a variety of sea creatures from various types of construction materials and slowly the Art Room filled up with colourful creatures.  The students also learnt a bit about the animals they were making and their features.

The Foundation students had a great time creating sea turtles from paper plates, fish from cardboard and wool and starfish in a rockpool from paper they printed themselves. They enjoyed seeing their creatures come to life.

The Year 3/4 students had a great time creating octopus and puffer fish from bubblewrap which were very effective. They also made squid from plastic bottles and material which challenged them at times but these turned out really well and are hanging up in the Art Room. They planned, gathered materials and created a coral reef with sea creatures in half an egg carton, this activity proved challenging however the students were very creative in overcoming challenges.

The Year 5 students made jellyfish from paper bowls and curling ribbon, this included collaging the bowl to add bright colours.  They also made fish from clay following a given process and decorated them them with their own designs using acrylic paint, the students enjoyed this and were very proud of their finished products. The students also made a coral reef in between two paper plates which they had to design themselves and choose their own materials, these turned out to be very effective.

The Year 6 students designed and made their own tropical fish from a plastic bottle, modroc (plaster strips), cardboard and paint and these turned out really well. This was their main piece of work for term 3 and they learnt and reflected on a few new skills. The students also did some foam printing from their own designs which were a reflection of their lives through symbols they designed themselves after learning about Indigenous art and symbology.
