YEAR 3 /4's NEWS

3/4 Democracy Incursion

We started our Democratic Decisions concept with an engaging incursion called Democracy, Community and me. Here are some students to tell you more about it:

Emerson Delaland 3/4P:

Eva ran the incursion for our class, she was from a company called Linked Incursions. We learned how mayors are elected and the different types of government like the prime minister. I was counting the votes with Anouk to see who won the election for Mayor. It was close to being a draw with Candidate Court and Candidate Health. In the end, Candidate Court (Nella) ended up winning. She got to act as the Mayor and all the council members had to make a decision about if dogs should go off lead in our community. They voted 4-2. It was a good learning experience for the whole class. We hope the real mayor is going to be here at Dinjerra next week!

Vihan and Regan from 3/4 C
The incursion was really exciting and fun! Mauz got to be the Mayor by being elected. Regan, Finley, Julian, Muaz and Abdel got to have a chance at being the Councillor. Muaz had the most votes, so he got to wear a special costume and a cool chain.
We learned about voting anonymously, how to address the Mayor, how local law making works.  We also learned about state and local government and about the different processes for making a mayor.
It was a lot of fun!
