It has been a busy term within the Junior School at Lalor Secondary College with a number of transition events occurring over past few weeks.
Throughout the term we have been visiting our local primary feeder school and speaking with the year 6 students about high school and what to expect. We have now visited over 10 different schools and have had some wonderful conversations. On Thursday 6th a few ex-students of Lalor East Primary returned to be a part of the “MythBusters” program. Our students formed a panel of experts who fielded questions from curious year 6 students and provided their insight into what it was like moving to high school.
On November 5th we had our first visit from our 2026 year 7 cohort who visited the school for their ‘getting to know you day’. It was wonderful to see the exciting new additions to the college and have them begin to settle in and experience for the first time, a little of what secondary school life is like.
On Tuesday the 25th of November, the junior school will be hosting the year 7 2026 information evening. Our new students and families are invited to the school to hear about what to expect as our newest arrivals and inductees to the college.
Our next big step for the 2026 year 7 students is the Orientation Day that will be occurring on Tuesday December 9th. All year 6 students will be visiting Lalor Secondary for the entire day to get their first experience of full day of high school. We look forward to welcoming them all again on this day.
Our Spring Concert was held on the 21st of October. Performances ranged from woodwind, to violin, to drums, vocals, jazz ensembles and various bands. We had approximately one hundred students performing for a packed house. It was a wonderful night of celebration of our student accomplishments and the progress of the music program which is going from strength to strength. Congratulations to Ms Heather Allan and the instrumental music staff for putting on such an event. Earlier that same day we also invited a few of the local primary schools to a special matinee performance. Thank you Lalor East Primary School, Thomastown East Primary School, and Lalor North Primary School, and Lalor Primary School for coming along and supporting our students and instrumental program. We hope you enjoyed the show!
The Lalor Secondary’s End of Year Program begins on Monday the 8th of December. The End of Year Program is provided to our students in year 7 to 9 as an alternative to the regular teaching and learning program. Students are engaged in a variety of activities and experiences to see them to the end of the year and celebrate their achievements across the year. Students will be involved in year level excursions, magic shows, an amazing race, and much more. Student behaviour for the remainder of the term will be a focus of the junior school team to ensure that the year is concluded well. Students that are not representing the college values may not be able to attend special events and excursions during the end of year program.
