Foundation students continue to be busy bees this term whilst we are learning about insects.

Did you know that caterpillars only have 6 real legs? They look like they have a lot more, but they are ‘fake’ legs called pro-legs!

Some of us have also gone through our metamorphosis, turning into beautiful butterflies.

What a fun and engaging fortnight it has been in Level 1!

In SEL, we’ve continued our focus on stress management and fine motor skills. Students had a fantastic time building tall cup towers and then using flying chickens to knock them down — a perfect mix of teamwork, laughter, and careful coordination!

In Literacy, we’ve been developing our narrative writing skills, drawing inspiration from Dreaming stories such as How the Clouds Were Formed. Students are now creating their own imaginative “How the ___ got its ___” stories, practising planning, sequencing, and creative language choices.

In Maths, we have completed some assessments and have started exploring the concept of sharing equally. Our lessons have been hands-on and fun — we’ve shared surfing dogs and colourful popcorn to understand how to divide items fairly among groups.

In Inquiry we have continued our work on weather with a focus on learning about the different cloud types.

A major highlight of the fortnight was our Kaboom! Outdoor Night. It was so exciting to return to school in the evening, enjoy a delicious Subway dinner, and take part in all the energetic games and activities set up by the Kaboom! team. The students had an absolute blast!

Our Year 2 students refreshed their addition and subtraction skills in a fun and active way! Working in pairs across the Level 2 building, students took part in a maths scavenger hunt, searching for 20 hidden clue cards with worded problems to solve. It was wonderful to see everyone collaborating, sharing strategies and using their number knowledge to crack each challenge!

Our Level 3 students have been getting into the Halloween spirit this week by reading and writing spooky stories!

We have been sharing spooky, scary stories and identifying the author’s purpose and the elements used to achieve their intended purpose. To celebrate all the hard work we’ve put into our narrative writing unit, we are using our amazing skills to write our own spooky scary stories.

We’ve also been designing our very own playgrounds, learning how to draw from a bird’s eye view. Students have loved adding exciting features like water slides, trampolines, Gaga pits, and so much more!

Our Level 4s are having an amazing time on their Philip Island Adventure Camp.

They can't wait to share their adventures with you in our next newsletter!

Level 5

Level 5 students have been busy in ‘the science lab’ exploring chemical reactions through a series of exciting hands-on experiments.

They mixed everyday substances like citric acid and baking soda to observe fizzing and bubbling, discovering how new materials can be formed when chemicals react. Students tested different combinations, recorded their observations, and discussed what made each reaction happen.

Through these experiments, they developed their scientific thinking, practiced fair testing, and learned to identify signs of chemical change.

Level 6

The Level 6 students finished off their poetry block this week, combining their artistic and literary skills to create Shape (concrete) and Block-Out Poems.

Shape Poems are written so that the words form a picture connected to the poem’s theme. Block-Out Poems, on the other hand, are made by taking a page of existing text and covering up most of the words, leaving behind a handful that create a brand-new poem.

Don’t they look fabulous?
