Learning Highlights

Year 7 Visual Art
It's that time of the year when our Year 7 Visual Art students are getting their hands dirty making clay pumpkin sculptures. After studying the life and practice of contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, students designed their works on paper, before hand-building with pinch-pots, coils and slabs.
The pumpkins will be fired when dry, then hand-painted with bright, bold colours and patterns that reflect Kusama's obsession with dots.
de-Fusion
Recently, senior students proudly unveiled their final works in Visual Art and Media Production at the stunning Rosny Barn Gallery. This exhibition marks the culmination of their creative journey, showcasing an impressive range of media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media.
Each student explored a negotiated concept through their chosen medium, expressing ideas with depth, originality, and technical skill. The result? A vibrant and diverse collection that left the audience in awe.
MacKillop Food Safari
On Friday 14 November, the school hosted a vibrant celebration of the Year 9 Global Cuisine elective, a popular subject within the Food Technology area. The event featured a special guest appearance by Maeve O’Meara, renowned host of SBS’s Food Safari.
Around 70 students and staff gathered for a luncheon where students showcased their skills by preparing an impressive array of dishes from different countries. The occasion highlighted the diversity and creativity that the course inspires. Maeve captivated the audience with a demonstration of one of her favourite recipes, a Lebanese-inspired salmon dish, while also sharing stories from her career as a food journalist.
Her reflections on the power of food to connect cultures and communities resonated strongly with the students, who eagerly asked questions about her experiences and insights. The event was both a feast for the senses and an inspiring reminder of how food can serve as a bridge across cultures, leaving students motivated to continue exploring the world through cuisine.
Year 10 students visit de-Fusion
Our Year 10 students visited the Rosny Barn to explore the Year 11/12 Visual Art and Media exhibition de-Fusion. They were able to see first-hand the level of commitment, creativity, and standard of work expected in the TASC Visual Art and Media courses.
Students were genuinely impressed by what their peers had achieved. They reflected on their favourite body of work and cast their votes for the “People’s Choice” prize.

Year 9 History and HaSS excursions
We are studying the First World War in classes and researching Tasmanian soldiers who fought during the war. We were joined by guest speaker, John Wadsley, from the Friend's of the Soldier's Walk and our resident history buff, Phil Stanley, to tell us stories and interesting facts from the time.
We enjoyed a scavenger hunt at the Crossroads to help us learn more about some of the Tasmanian soldiers who sacrificed so much for their country.

Our drama students are busy rehearsing for FUSION! This year, the Drama Department is presenting a short showcase featuring a series of scenes performed on our brand-new stage in the drama room. Students from Years 7 to 10 have been rehearsing diligently at lunchtimes in preparation, and they are excited to share their work.
The showcase will take place at 5pm on Wednesday, 26th November in the drama room. Please come along and support our talented students as they bring their creativity and hard work to the stage.
