From the Music Team

We’ve hit the ground running here in the music department at Chelt.Sec!

It’s wonderful to be back and our students are already showing a great deal of enthusiasm for the wonderful opportunities we can provide to support their creativity, learning and love of music.

On Monday 2nd February, we had a whole school assembly to congratulate our 2025 Dux of the school. During this assembly, we were lucky enough to witness an outstanding performance from Chloe Rogers and Ruby Cripps performing the song Beaches by Beabadoobee. The harmonies were uplifting and it was a great way to inspire all of our school community for a positive start to the year.

Stage band and concert band rehearsals have kicked off and we are looking forward to when the Junior Concert Band gets their start soon. Our fearless leader, Mr Coad, and our woodwind teacher, Mr Dawson, have some great repertoire planned for this year.

All musicians at Chelt.Sec will be working their way toward our concerts and the first cab off the rank will be the Year 7 Debut at a date to be announced in Term 2. Following that, we will have Open Mic performances, lunchtime concerts and further performances at the Leadership Assembly on 23rd February.

Music Classroom has hit the ground running with an engaging, inspiring and creative curriculum with Mr Meyer at the helm.

Auditions are currently in progress for our Avenues Exchange Band directed by Mr Meyer. This year they will be travelling to Adelaide to perform at the Avenues school as part of a tradition that has been ongoing for over 50 years. Make sure you book in and come along to the audition, which will be taking place next Tuesday after school in the music rooms.

Chelt.Voices will resume rehearsals next week with the direction of Mrs Maxwell-Cripps. All Voice students will be in attendance. If you are interested in joining us, everyone is welcome!! We rehearse in the auditorium on Wednesdays at lunchtime. Singing is a great way to let off steam and enjoy learning harmonies with your friends.

On Wednesday 11th February, our Music Captain, Ruby Cripps, welcomed the Year 7s and MC’d the afternoon introducing some awesome performances from Alyssa M., Gigi G., Kiara A., Ruby C. and Chloe R. and our Concert Band. The evening was a huge success. Photographs of the performances were taken by Ruby C..
