At the end of last year, our amazing Year 6 students lovingly decorated rocks to be placed in Chloe’s Garden.

Chloe would have graduated alongside our Year 6 students last year. Tragically, she passed away in a car accident when she was in Year 2, along with her mum Koby and baby brother, Harrison. She leaves behind her dad and her brothers, Lachlan and Liam, with Liam currently in Year 5 at Le Page.

Yesterday, Liam and his friend had the special opportunity to place these beautifully decorated rocks in Chloe’s Garden in her memory. It was a quiet and meaningful moment — one filled with love, remembrance and the strong sense of community that makes Le Page so special.

Chloe will always remain a treasured part of our school story, and her garden continues to be a place of reflection, connection and love. 💜

Visual Arts / Culture Studies

In Visual Arts, students have been learning about the elements of art – line, shape, and pattern – and how these can be used in different ways to create interesting artworks.

Foundation students practised their drawing skills by following simple, step-by-step instructions.

Year 1 and 2 students began creating a symmetrical self-portrait by using half of their photo and carefully drawing the missing side to complete their picture.

Years 3 to 6 students explored Spanish culture through the artist Salvador Dalí. They learnt when and where he was born and how he loved to paint strange and imaginative artworks based on dreams and feelings rather than real life. Students explored key features of Surrealism and some of Dalí’s well-known symbols, such as melting clocks, ants, eggs, and shadows, as well as his famous curly moustache.

Year 3/4 students planned and drew an artwork inspired by Dalí’s melting clocks. They also created a surreal version of an everyday object by adding wings, arms, legs, or melting and flying effects.

Year 5/6 students also created an artwork inspired by the melting clocks and then designed a hybrid animal, combining parts of two or more animals to create one new imaginative creature. They also completed their pop art self-portrait.

All students celebrated Chinese New Year – the Year of the Horse. They learnt that Chinese New Year is about family, happiness, good fortune, good luck, and new beginnings. Students explored the lunar calendar, the story behind the animal order, red envelopes, and dragon and lion dances, with fireworks used to scare away evil spirits. They also learnt about the Red Lantern Festival, which symbolises saying goodbye to the past and welcoming the new year. All students completed an art and craft activity related to the Year of the Horse.

Students who applied for the Leader in Me Art position did a wonderful job in their interviews. Zehra, Holly F, and I were very proud of their efforts. The Leader in Me Art leaders for Semester 1 (Terms 1 & 2) are: Melody, Zoe, Madden, Leah, Ariella, Holly D, Sanya, and Sezen – congratulations! We are looking forward to working together.

PE

In week 3 we were lucky enough to have members from the local hockey club – Southern United Hockey Club (Kingston Heath Reserve), come out to the school and provide one hockey lesson to each class.

The lesson was an introduction to Hockey session, but also a way to promote their club for any students that might be interested in joining.

The students learnt how to hold the hockey stick correctly, how to dribble the ball and control it. From this they played a few games to continue to develop their skills.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. As a result, we will continue the hockey sessions for a few weeks, which included this past week.

We continued to focus on the correct grip, a focus on using just one side of the stick, controlling the ball and working with a partner.

Interschool Sports

Our first round of interschool sports was played on Friday 6th Feb.

All year 5 and 6 students participated and it was a great day, with everyone have a great time.

It is fantastic to see all of our students have a go, try their best, learn some new skills, games and rules, and work together with good sportsmanship and teamwork.

The results were:

Both mixed and girls teeball and the mixed tennis teams won.

Girls tennis and mixed volleyball had a close loss.

On Friday 13th, we hosted Kingston Heath Primary School. Again it was a great morning.

Boys teeball team won

Both tennis teams won

The other teams had a practice session as there weren’t teams to compete against in girls teeball and mixed volleyball.

Library

Jade, Melody and myself held library interviews last week. We now have a team full of motivated leaders who will work in the library all year, making it an even better place. This week, I ordered new library badges, so if your child is a library leader and did not have a badge, theirs should arrive soon.

We have multiple events coming up this term; please keep your eyes open on compass.

Our yearly Le Page Readathon starts on the 2/3/26 and will run for four weeks. Our first ever QBD Book Fair is scheduled for 23/3 - 27/3. It will be an opportunity for us to support a local bookstore, and get some different books on offer than we usually do with Scholastic.

Have a lovely weekend, and keep on reading!
