Amazing 5/6

From the Teachers

It’s been a busy fortnight as all classes are still incorporating their new routines and settling into the demands and standards of 5/6. In the classroom, we have continued reading The Callers, looking at descriptive language and narrative features of this text. Students have begun building their writing skills in preparation for an upcoming narrative piece by creating short descriptive stories about Evanta using the formula - interesting adjective + interesting colour + noun.

In Mathematics, we are finishing up our data units. The students have been collecting, analysing and representing their data using graphs. The cohort is also continuing to strengthen multiplication skills at home and in class as a part of their academic WIGs and in preparation for beginning new units. Year 5 will soon be looking at factors and multiples and the year 6’s will be learning about prime, composite, square and triangular numbers.

Interschool sports have started with a lot of enthusiasm and sportsmanship. We have seen some success across the teams and improvement each week as we play. We are looking forward to hosting Mentone Girls this week.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we begin the year together. Please encourage your child to read regularly at home and to practise their times tables whenever possible. It's already shaping up to be a fun and engaging term.
