Terrific 2

Year Two Newsletter.

Term One. Week Four.

We have continued to be very busy in year two. Our students have been tracking the speaker, listening so well and putting their hands up to ask questions. We are tracking our classroom WIGS each day to see if we are reaching our Term One goal. Our results have been very positive. Our classroom WIG (Wildly Important Goal) is an area that we want our students to demonstrate well, for positive learning to be achieved. Everyone has been very proactive and is trying their very best to achieve our goal.

Literacy.

In phonics, we practice our codes each morning. We sound out the codes together. We write and spell words together, focusing on the sounds of the letters and blending them. This can be challenging for our younger students, but with ongoing repetition and practice, positive results can be achieved. Repetition and practice are the key components.

Our text focus for this Term is Alfie’s Search for Destiny. The students have really enjoyed this story. We have been discussing the meaning of destiny. The students have also been talking about the importance of the setting. Where is the setting for the story? What does it look like? Can we use adjectives to describe the setting in an interesting way? We have also been starting to learn about rhyming words and writing rhyming sentences.

Maths.

We have been learning about place value and number lines. The students have been participating in hands-on games, including the use of playing cards, to reinforce place value and number position. We also made a number line up to 1000. The students put their number in the correct position.

Science.

We have started our science and enquiry lessons. We are learning about earth and its natural resources. This has been very interesting, and we had some amazing discussions about the importance of natural resources and looking after our earth.

Testing.

We are continuing our testing to determine where our students are in their learning. We have also established small groups for extra support in our classrooms. These groups of children work with our ES staff.
