We are learning to analyse the features of a persuasive text. 


VOCABULARY

Call to Action: an order or a demand to do something in order to achieve an aim or deal with a problem.

 

Emotive Language: specific word choices that are made in order to elicit an emotional response from the reader/listener.

 

Modality Words: Modality refers to the level of certainty in the language choices of a text. Modality is a range from high (for example, will) to low (for example, may). 


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Look at advertisements in the newspaper, magazines or on TV. 

Ask your child to identify some language features like call to action, emotive language and modality words,

 

Discuss with your child if the advertisements persuaded them or changed their opinion about something.
