Screening and Viewing

Digital media such as films and documentaries at Kyabram P-12 College.

Screening and Viewing Policy

At Kyabram P-12 College we know that digital media such as films and documentaries can be great additions to student learning in the classroom. However, it is also important that we are clear and open with our families about the purpose and nature of all screened and viewed material within our learning spaces.

The College has therefore developed a new policy and associated procedure to support transparent and supportive engagement with digital media in all learning spaces across Prep to Year 12.

For all digital media with a rating of PG or higher, the College will communicate with caregivers and allow them to opt-out of their child’s viewing of this media. Where a caregiver makes a decision that their child is to opt-out, an alternative learning activity will be provided.

It is important to note that this process is an assumed consent process – which means that caregivers need to opt-out via Compass in order for their child to be excluded from the viewing.

How Does It Work?

The procedure for this is very similar to the events permission procedure all our families would be used to. If there is a screening of digital media coming up for a lesson, families will receive a notification via Compass Events and email.

Families can then log into Compass and review the details of the intended item to be screened and its use in the classroom. Families only need to action this if they would like their child to opt-out of this activity.
